Anga Banga River PNG highlands 1986

Beautiful river completely untouched. My concern is that by now the Malaysian timber giants have probably cleared the jungle around it and it is probably poluted to buggery. Fantastic stretch of water... Again wish I had my fishing rod with me.

Nah Sean. Wish I did though.
We stopped at a tributary and parked the raft, under the boat in a deep water eddy were 6 of the biggest trout, like fish I have seen must have been well over a metre. I just abouit cried.
Then the guide Bonnie (see other pic) gets out and grabs a rock and says watch this.... he proceeds to hurl this rock a couple of hundred metres (boundary to stumps stuff anyway) into the shallow feeder tributary. Well the water just erupted with fish a metre long jumping everywhere. I felt ill!!!! I'd love to go back one day and after seeing your pics posted a few weeks ago it inspired me to drag out the old photo album and scan a few old pics.
Cheers

Where / What provance is this river.
Googled the name but nothing came up, PNG highlands? Pretty steep up there. There was a river at Goroka where they held the Gummy race, don't remember the name though, is that the one.
Not allowed to catch the trout in NZ. Went bush with an Assie, German, Irishman and me. The Aussie and German caught this huge trout with a .303 spinner, we just cut it across as steaks, fried with butter over an open fire, best fish I've ever had. Pity we didn't know about the rules!

Angabanga River
Its in Central Province. We did a white water river rafting trip down it.
Camping on the banks at night was like looking up at a cliff face of jungle all around and with no cities for thousands of miles the place lights up with fireflies and all sorts. Its the closest to being on Pandora. (Avatar reference for those who haven't seen the movie).
Cheers
