WTF is happening at Flat Rock?

I decided to head up to my "office" this arvo. Took the normal route in from Two Rocks and guess what...... The fuggin cockie up there has decided to do some earthmoving/clearing. The track in is now unpassable as there now exists a big wind row where the road past the dune used to be. No signs.. no nothing,, just a dead end. I'm concerned now that someone will crack the shits and set fire to the wind row. Why do people do this? Does anyone know what is happening up there?

Will test in the morning

Tue, 2009-12-22 19:53

Headed up at (before) first light in the morning from Wilbinga Road. I have a feeling the buggers will have blocked the road to Flatrock inside the farm gates so will head to the huts and then south. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Update

Wed, 2009-12-23 05:59

Stu and I headed up early this morning and checked things out. The road is not passable but already sections of fencing have been cut so it seems nothing will deter entry via Two Rocks. I am still keen to find out why so much trouble has been taken to block the road.

The entrance to Flat Rock from Wilbinga is still open so perhaps that's the best bet for now. With 4x4s now using the farmer's paddock to bypass the roadblock I wouldn't be suprised to see some form of retaliation be it spikes or some other form of deterrant.

Good on him

Wed, 2009-12-23 10:54

Being a farmer myself I can fully understand why he hates people cutting through  his property. Irritates me no-end as while 90% of people do the right thing , there are always some bastards out there who do damage and get up to no good in many forms from dumping rubbish to stealing. If you cut all people off then you have no problems so do the maths yourselves.

This is pretty interesting.

This is pretty interesting. Seems Both ends of Wilbinga are being reclaimed? Only the last 6 months or so I have been using the two rocks exit. I am heading up Sunday & will check this out. Back to just using Wilbinga road or the Grove for access I spose.

Update from Gingin Shire

Sat, 2009-12-26 11:23

This is what the Gingin Shire had to say about this.

"Vince, merry xmas to you and yours,

I am sorry that I am not able to advise you why the land clearing has occurred. These works have not been done by the Shire of Gingin. I would suggest that they may have been undertaken by either the City of Wanneroo or the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC)

Entry to Wilbinga is still available via the Shire of Gingin from Wilbinga Grove car park. I do not know of any plans by the Shire of Gingin to close it. As you stated it can get busy on the track so please take all care when traversing it.

Access is still available

Mon, 2009-12-28 13:51

Access is still available from The South Bowl to the Two Rocks deflating/Inflating area. I see what you mean by what the Farmer has done, but there is still a path which is easily driveable & does not cut into his land.

Both sides of the fence have been cut though?? There is no need to enter his property to exit/enter from that area.

Apart from the build up of crap he calls a fence the rest of the drive inland from South Bowl to Two Rocks is the same as always.

As someone has already mentioned anyhow, that until you get to the shacks it is all Wanneroo shire. In all the years have been up there I have never seen a ranger from either Gingin or Wanneroo shire throughout the whole Wilbinga Area, which in a way is a shame due to the amount of litter/morons that are starting to frequent the area in the last few years.
