2018 crays
Submitted by merdel12 on Thu, 2018-11-08 13:55
So it's coming up to that time of the year. I've fished the whites the last 3 years and have done very well out of Freo. Any news on what state the Crays are in at the moment? Whens everyone dropping their pots in? I'll probably drop late November then start pulling in December. Hope the weather is as good as it was last year

What type of pot i had a plastic pot that would loose its bait as i pulled it up as i saw the trail one day so from then on i cable tied them shut every time no problems after that. I had afew pots out in different spots but now have moved them all to the productive area where i am getting around 10 crays per pot easy if i checked it daily i would probably get alot more.

One Day Pull - picked up eight
Still continuing our run. Picked up eight on a one day pull after another bagout on Thursday morning. The Occys are a constant problem even now on one day pulls. They always seem to always attack the biggest cray in the pot and I would like to know if this is normal.

We got a bag easy diving
We got a bag easy diving today. 12 on the back of the bank but still shallow (10m) then in behind Carnac for the last 4 in 8m. Did my good deed for the day and recovered Someone’s pot for them first up too. Ropes had been cut off, visibility was that good they could easily see it from the surface, dropped down float bag attached back in boat all in 4 minutes and they got their pot back.

Wellllll finally dropped
Wellllll finally dropped ours, better late than never I guess. Got pulled up by fisheries on the way back in in their dirty great Naiad, he mentioned thye would film our entire conversation. No problem would prefer that so there's no bullshit. Anyway just informed us of the new rope laws etc. I should have mentioned the pro pots near ours in 8m of water with at least a 25m length of rope running down the surface.

Only a couple of boats out of OR today.
Tough work today out off Ocean Reef this morning but we caught some the biggest whites I have seen this year. My 4.75 Coraline handed the weather conditions far better that me I'm afraid. Then I saw a guy going out on his own in an open dinghy. Good luck I thought.

Hey snuffs, I'm curious to
Hey snuffs, I'm curious to know when setting your pots past the reef line in the sand, are you simply dropping and hoping the whites will find your pots? Or do you look for other pots and assume they're doing well? I moved mine about 200-300m off the 5 fathom bank off Port Kennedy this morning. Haven't been getting too many at all say 20m west off the reef edge.
Do the right thing and there will be fish tomorrow.

6 today at Ocean Reef
Lovely day out on the ocean at 5.15am with the carpark nearly full. Caught 6 nice size and again no cackers to worry about. Talk 30 min to finally get the boat out of the water but even thats OK when you have some crays to take home.
