Hi Ya, "but I dont see
Hi Ya,
"but I dont see amature anglers rallying if they reversed the decision"
That's because, generally, rec fisherpersons can't get off their fat arses when it comes time to 'fighting' for their rights.
How do I know? RecfishWA is under threat of loosing funding from the WA Govt and screaming for members (they have to get to about 1000 to become 'safe') and they are still screaming.
Cheers.

I'm a little confused
I'm not having a go at the pro's but I'm getting conflicting information as to who is doing the most damage to fish stocks in this area
according to the pro's it's the recreational fisherman, according to the recreationals well some of them it's the pro's I seen it reported on this site a while ago that they dont even fish in this area
so why the ban. If the stocks are so low then isn't it in the best interest of everyone that the take is reduced? dont get me wrong I'm all for reducing the bag limits for rereationals too
If the pro's are right and they dont take a large percentage then it's obviously a vote buying excercise and I'm sure it will be reversed eventually.
another point is where does all this dhu and baldchin black arse etc go that the pro's catch Export?
where ever it goe's it dosent go to our chip shops or restaraunts down our way so we cant be blamed for Buying it, a typical chip shop menu would be snapper whiting shark hake and "Fish" what you get if you buy fish & Chips! Like I said not having a go at the pro's but if they can say it's our fault then we can say it's theirs. I'm sure they would continue fishing untill the fish have all gone as would the recreationals if someone didn't step in and stop it
That's my two bobs worth.

hmmm dogsoldier, why did
hmmm
dogsoldier, why did you mention me again? I was simply stating what my imagination had in store if a bunch of fishwrecked people rocked up there to stir them up. It wasnt my idea.
Also, as for who takes more fish or whatever, well, this is how it all pans out:
We have a fish crisis.. the waters are getting fished out in this area. Rec fishers need to be culled by giving them the info and encouraging them to catch and release.
Commercial fisherman (talking mainly about longliners here, not crayfishermen and others) cant effectively practice catch and release, obviously because they take the fish from the sea for the food aspect, and yes, its business for them.
Remember, its not about who gets what and who does what and who catches more etc...
Its about the fishery itself and prolonging it.
I think people tend to forget that sometimes when they point the finger at the other and try to find blame in something. Think about solutions, not passing the buck of responsibility. Both rec and commercial fishermen need to make changes to prolong this fishery. If they put a complete ban on rec fishers, forcing them to catch and release everything... would it solve the problem? If they put a complete ban on commercial fisherman, it would put alot of people in poverty.
So really, lets forget about who takes more and who is doing more damage and resign to the fact that we all do damage, be it little or big.
Fact is, its not about us. Its about the fish.

yeah i know dude, but it sorta insinuated that I had an opinion.. I was making a comment that there would prolly be a punchup if someone roused up fishwrecked.com members to go down and throw words at them..
I never voiced an opinion for or against the topic.
Dont worry about it. Its all good.

Touchy subject
I dont think everyone will agree on this subject.
Everyone is right in a way. You are all intitled to ur views.
I think fishy fingers was having a laugh to start with but some people
take topics to heart. Nevermind
I do agree with rickets, we are all doing damage be it small or large.

no probs
yeah no probs sticky fingers! i hate what the comm fishos do m8 dont u worry, i suppose its different up this way cos our stocks are healthy and the majority of the pros wetliners go at least 30 to 40 mile out to there own fishing grounds. i think this issue will go on and on and in the end we are all going to feel the effect pros and recos alike.

My godparents family have been professional fisherman down south since day dot. What they do to the fish stocks is a horrible thing to see, but its what they do for a living and how they put food on the table and have for generations. They have as much reason to gripe as we do when we take recreational cuts, but remember the fisheries department don't just do this to make you feel bad. There's a reason why, you just need to see through all the 'who does more damage' argument and realise our fishery is in decline and needs help. We are all going to have to suffer the consequences of these decisions, but in the end its for our own benefit.
Cheers,
Adam

My thoughts exactly adam..
My thoughts exactly adam.. as I said there really is no point the reccies paying out the commies and vice versa because we both do the same thing, just in different ways. Fact is, our fishery needs SOMETHING put in place to help it. End of Story.
But as for the protest at parliament.. I can agree it would be a selfish whinge if theyre just doing it to try and reverse the affects of it. I know a lot of you think that its ok to whine and whinge and have a gripe cos its thier livelihood, but really, whining and protesting only works if you have a better idea in mind or atleast another idea that you can compromise with... is there really a better idea or policy that can be put in place for the commercial fishermen? Or are they just going down there to show thier dismay at the decision?
Protests are OK if there is a Solution in mind. Protests are useless if its just a bunch of people who are arguing because of thier predicament, yet have no input to a solution - and we all know that happens a lot in todays society.
