Targetting Blue Bone

I have decided that this weekend its bluebone time out in the Dampier islands. What I do need if possible is advise on how to hook a crab correctly. Have some blue manna frozen just for this time and can gather some ghost crabs at night.

Any help would be needed and someone even told me to super glue a hook to the back of a crab

Cheers all

Superglue works, just dry

Superglue works, just dry the crab at the glue location first (just quick wipe with shirt). Superglue cures under water too. You can hook through, then glue to keep it in place (rather than gluing the hook to the crab)

For baiting them i've seen them rigged through the whole bodie (i.e. coming out near the front) as well as just nicked on near the 'tail'. You can also tie a small loop of think mono to the hook and around the crab. I've seen big claws with a circle hook just crossways. I wouldnt be surprised if the bluebone just eats the crab hole and crunches it around, so maybe the exact location of the hook is more to do with keeping the crab on?

Will be interesting to see how the experts do it (i'm sure Big John and the Pilbara boys will know how :p)

Might chase a few ghost crabs and add some weight to their backs. LOL

I havent fished with crabs

I havent fished with crabs much, so take the northern boys advice over mine :p.

If you arent fishing deep, go weightless if you can get away with it. Splitshots will allow for a slow sink if you can. Depends how deep you fish I guess. I'd be inclined to run a ball sinker. Just seems it would allow the crab to waft around more, but I dont know how well it works in practice in bluebone territory? You can also crush the crabs a bit so they look injured and start oozing scents everywhere :p

got some big ones over the

got some big ones over the years fishing right up on the rocks, agree with craig on the handlines thing especially in shallow water. Split shot is good, sit ahead of the structure if you can and drift crabs back toward them, so they slowly sink and yeah, let them go a bit, when they go. HANG THE F ON, they go bloody hard

always fished well mid flood tide on a spring, the more current the better

you guys should go allright this weekend, im stuck in melbourne and its bloody cold, although i am going to the MCG this friday so that should be good, havnt been there for ages

good luck!

see if you can get some

see if you can get some small rock crabs from around the mangroves at back beach on a lowish tide. i find when the water is just reaching the channel at the back of the mangroves is best but you need a good pair of glasses and bbq tongs, then put the hook in from up under the flap underneath him, and out through the top shell. but ass the boys have said, let him nibble at it for a while then pick it up and swim off with it. Good luck mate
