Should i go crabbing at dawesville or in the swan?

Hi

I'm planning to take my nephew crabbing for his first time tomorrow.

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction  (nephew bores quickly).

Feels like the swan might be a lot of work for little reward with the rain that fell last week.

Any pointers greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Dan

But to keep that little fella busy , work out all sorts of age appropiate jobs he can do , and run him thru it on the way out,

explaining that crabbing is a team effort and those that get involved get the rewards.

I.E Measuring each crab with gauge once you have them by the claws, getting more bait out of esky for pots , spotting number 1 pot

at start of the run ( we always mark that one differently to rest) etc etc , get him involved , and have fun.

I have a young niece who has the same problem, "I'm bored poppy". I think this is common with a lot of young'uns by getting them actively involved and doing something as part of the team she has never mentions the b word again when we go crabbing.

Dawsville

Dawsville will keep him entertained more than the Swan. Plenty of crabs around just have to check size .

The wind is the biggest problem in both systems, check the weather and use google earth to plan an area to fish .

Are you Land based or from a boat ?

Thanks for all the pointers, I'll be in a boat, would normally go south from Dawesville but it has been about 20yrs.

Have been working hard for only meagre rewards in the Swan/Canning of late, using mullet as bait.  So that's why i was considering Dawesville.

Mandurah, went out today and bagged out in 15 minutes using drop nets. First pull 13 crabs! Every crab caught was sized and big!

There's heaps of jettys along

There's heaps of jettys along the Serpy River you can hit There's a 'beach' that's been created in the Dawesville canals and you can pitch nets off the wall. Novara boat ramp at night time is good and there is also a jetty thingo about 2.2km south of the Dawesville boat ramp along Estuary road. If you dangle a fish frame in the water at the jetty thingo it is so shallow you can stand on there and scoop the crabs as they come in to it.
