Swan River - Australia Day advice.

Just chasing some tips our first venture out onto the river for Aus day. I’ve read the DOT boating guide so know all that. I was thinking of putting in at Crawley / Matilda Bat ramp and anchoring west side of the Narrows so I’m not stuck in there till DOT allow us to move

What time does the car park at Crawley fill up?

whats the usual wait time to get out afterwards?

Any advice appreciated.

We used to do it in a 60

Thu, 2018-01-25 08:04

We used to do it in a 60 footer every year until it got stupid. People dragging anchors into you and then there are the clowns with no lights doing 25 knots through traffic on the way home.

Not forgetting the wankers that have spot lights on so they can see where they are going but no one else.

Good Luck and be seen to be safe.

 What size boat?If possible

 What size boat?

If possible just swag onboard and let the missus drive home, retrieve next day after doing a bit of crabbing etc.

South Perth foreshore is good, very busy of course but good atmosphere generally.

Can back right up to the beach and be out of the way of the bigger boats.

 23’. If it wasn’t for

23’. If it wasn’t for sporting commitments next day (ruling out staying out overnight), did sound like a good option to avoid the other issues raised here. Maybe next year

What time does the car park

Thu, 2018-01-25 08:29

What time does the car park at Crawley fill up? - answer -about 7am

whats the usual wait time to get out afterwards? usually about 7am....next day! :-)

Any advice appreciated. - advice! -don't do it!

I am a member at the yacht club next door - we go there most years to watch the skyshow -over the years the ramp is more entertaining than the skyshow - its a first class debacle - I personally would never do it again in my boat for the reasons outlined by swompa- the bottom is basically mud down near the narrows - so you throw in a couple of hundred boats it is inevitable that some wont have anchors holding- you will spend more time worrying about others in boats than enjoying the show...

Skyshow

unless you have plenty of time on your hands pelagicyachts has the best advice, don’t do it. It’s pandamonium on that day. A few years back we launched at hillarys and cruised down from there, we were all said and done with boat back on trailer by 12.30am but it’s a bit of a hike.

Yep definitely having second thoughts. Thanks pelagicyachts for your info re the ramp car park. I was thinking of arriving there about 9.30am and it would have been a complete waste of time.

We go from Hillary’s and either stay on our mooring in Matilda bay overnight or cruise back to Hillary’s afte the skyshow, but as mentioned above it’s a late one once the boats on the trailer.

Did Matilda bay lanch once.....MISSION!
