Welcome Jonya.
I dare say Sean Surfy is your man on the East Coast who will give you the low down. Doro is over there too.
Look forward to seeing a few pics of those grander marlin if you get onto them.
Cheers

Hi Jonya
G'day Jonya, Welcome to fishwrecked. What part of Queensland are you headed to?
I dream of the 1000 pounder too, actually I set my sights on a 300 pounder but was very happy getting a 100lb fish for my first. After seeing what sort of fight they put up I could only imagine how much hard work you'd have to put in to get a big one. What dreams are made of, well, mine anyway. :)
Hope you enjoy the site,
Cheers,
Adam

yeh thanx Adam i have to
yeh thanx Adam
i have to agree you dont actually relise the power of the fish until you are fighting them, i managed to pull my first marlin up wich took one and a half hours on a tigra30 on an alutecnoss rod it measured 2.8 meters i then set the drag on teh 50tiagra at 22lb and fought another one for over three and a half ours before it's bill cut through the 400lb leader!!! i estimated it to be around the 600lb mark
afetr that i cant get enough of it, i'm probs heading up to exmouth for bonanza in november hope get some more then..
have u ever fished mandurah waters or know anyone who does???

yeh sorry mate not sure
yeh sorry mate not sure could only estimate around 1000lb for exmouth, try going to the exmouth game fishing web site and you mite find some info on that http://members.westnet.com.au/kujoex//index.htm at this time of year the blue marlin are well of the shelf and out really deep so if you were to get one of them it would be quite impresive.. the black marlin in exmouth i would estimate to be around 300lb on average. my firned went up for game ex this year and landed 15 marlin all around that weight

EGFC web
The EGFC web has come along way lately. Got some good info on it. I know a few people that fish down Mandurah way, have only really fished out wide once myself, but have always been meaning to give it a shot. My cousin seems to do pretty well on the dhuies out of there, sure there are plenty of tasty bycatches as well.

ah yeha my apologies its actually a 20 foot dolphin boat we had made up but its really aging now and the 2 stroke merc90 is getting to the point were its puting more fuel out than its worth sOoO we have been on the boating market for a while now just sussing out wats the best way to goo.. we are really tossing up between the trophy similar to brunzeels or the boston whaler 25footer, we might hold of to the mandurrah boat show coming in a couple months, its always good to see the boats together and compare.

Flywest is your Mandurah man
Jonya, Flywest fishes out of Mandurah, so he might be able to give you some guidance. I'm sure he won't mind sharing the knowledge, though don;t mention Dhuies to him, they have been proving very elusive according to my last conversation with him.
He is a top bloke and I'm sure would find a spot for you on his charter boat if he is heading out that week.
Cheers

Perth still fishes OK
There are still a few fish around in Perth waters, but you are dead right that the fishing pressure makes it harder and harder to find them and it is only going to get worse unless some serious restrictions are put in place.
With Mandurah having such a vast area of flat featureless ground for quite a way off the coast it takes a few more clicks on the odometer to get out to where the big ones are that's for sure. I can't say I have ever got Mandurah sussed, I've fished it a fair few times but really only hit the FFB and the south Bouvards to any great effect.
Good luck down there, let us know how you go.
Cheers
