Penn Torque 300 Test

Well to say the least these new reels are amazing.

Mine rigged with 80lb platypus superbraid performed like no other and is without a doubt the best reel I have ever used!!!! The amount of drag and pressure you can impart on a fish is sweet and the speed of retrieve is beyond belief. As Adam said when a shark tried to taste my nice red it was simply a matter of upping the rate and the red just flew past the shark and into the net.

What is also great about the reel is as the same suggests is the torque. Most high speed reels when under load can be a bitch to turn the handle but not with this one - it just keeps on going, and believe me I gave it the workout of its life with a 7 odd foot shark fully locked up for 1 and a half hours. Jeez I love this reel :)))

I have it matched to a custom 80lb jig stick (a hastings blank I think) from campbells and the rod is fantastic aswell and perfect for the reel although when I was cleaning it one day a nice sliver of coating decided to splinter off the rod and lodge itself nicely into my thumb. A knife and 20mins later it was finally removed so SHIZZA I will be back to get that bit fixed up. Apart from that though the rod is faultless and I cant wait to get it out to the sambo grounds and heave some up - they do not have a chance at all.

So there you have it it is the ultimate combo and well worth the money.

Cheers

Gully

I can attest...

yep that reel Gully has kicks arse, I was there and saw it all!! Jay had a Saltist cranking as fast as he could on the fish before and it got chomped within metres of the boat by the same shark that Gully whizzed his red emperor past about a minute after...that reel kicks arse, especially with the power that you still have at that gear ratio...
if i had enough spondoola i would definitely get one...but it aint gonna happen...

Kletchy boy, what are you on about with your Penns are shit business?? a) i thought you had one, and b) youd be about the only person to say that... and c) when are we having the fly vs lure battle for mullas? i look forward to kicking your ARSE!! that day on the river is still haunting me man...that spot just didnt make any sense...

bugger all bucks, how are ye

bugger all bucks, how are ye mate?

maybe i'm being harsh, penns aren't that bad. they shit all over okuma's. dunno if thats a compliment though! you know about okuma's innit?

daiwa all the way for me these days. i have gone from over head to egg beater a bit though. live to jig.

fly vs lure battle. i want that very much, but as you know i'm hardly in perth. i reckon fly may be superior on this occasion. being able to keep a fly moving above snags may be advantageous. lets do it in april.

yeah the spot on the river is where i have caught the biggest tailor i have seen in the river but the last few seasons it has shut down. bizarre eh, with all the bait and eddies.

Torque

The torque dominated. Was seriously impressed with its capabilities with pulling fish that were certainly destined for mr shark. Drag pressure was impressive, line retrieval was brilliant, definately my next purchase after witnessing Gully's in action.

Torques

Thu, 2007-03-29 00:24

Glad to see they have finally started to ship to markets outside the USA.
I have had my TRQ300 since July, and my TRQ200 since October, and have caught lots of fish on both, including yellowfin tuna to 95 pounds and striped marlin to 170 pounds.
Just got done working at the famous "Fred Hall Shows", and even the highly skeptical anglers in Long Beach and Del Mar were being won over as the Torques' reputation spreads.
They are awesome reels!
Not sure how long they will take to get to non-US markets, but the Fred Hall shows marked the debut of the International 50VSX and 30VSX models on dealer shelves.
