Customs at Perth Airport

The Mrs gets back from Bali tonight and I'm gonna surprise her and get the kids babysat so I can meet her there. Can any of you Bali regulars give me an indication of how long it will take her to get through customs on a 7:30 arrival?

It can also be really quick

It can also be really quick if she has nothing to declare, no duty free to pick up and an E passport.

back in the day

Fri, 2017-03-10 09:06

The first year or 2 the system was in place it was utter crap, but at least even if you tried to use it, then got diverted to the assistiance lane, it was still heaps shorter than the old school way. Nowdays thou it works a charm. Even leaving the country now they have it. Dont even need to talk to a person at all now. Which is kinda sad in a way for all the jobs that its taken over.

  Came back yesterday

Mon, 2017-03-13 16:37

Came back yesterday afternoon from NZ.  The E Passport System worked fantastic, quick and efficient.

Next down stairs to get bags, noticed two planes arrived-thought shouldn't be too bad with only two flights arrived.

 Wrong!

Noticed the que starting to form in the "Sheep Race" for Customs. Couldn't believe it when we finally got around the corner(the que was now as far as I could see looking back)

Only one Customs Officer at the checkpoint!

Felt really sorry for the families with young children. Surly this day and age Perth Airport can do better than this!

 Yep agree-same last time we

Tue, 2017-02-07 14:20

Yep agree-same last time we came thru.  Three Flights arrived same time, and I did notice one of those flights was from Bali.

The que was huge, like being in sheep race gates!

Over an hour to get thru, and that was in the "Green Lane" - nothing to declare.

The fastest I've ever went

Tue, 2017-02-07 15:17

The fastest I've ever went through was about 10 minutes after landing on the same flight as your Mrs, E passport and no checked in bag, the longest probably an hour and a bit. There is no other flight scheduled within an hour either way of 7:30pm, so she should have pretty good run.

 What bourbon are you

Tue, 2017-02-07 16:22

What bourbon are you getting? Each time I go through I get the Woodfords Kentucky Derby, without a doubt the best bourbon I've ever had in my life. I'm cradling a bottle at home until I go to Bali in July.

You're right Rob but it depends on what you buy and like the bourbon I mention above I can't find it anywhere else so it's a duty free purchase.

YOu gotta go for volume ROb.

Wed, 2017-02-08 08:16

YOu gotta go for volume ROb. Got a 1L bottle of Turkey (she got me standard the hag) for $35 usually around $60 or more and a 1L bottle of The Kraken for $45 which usually around $60 for just a 700ml. That's a saving of around $75 which pretty bloody good in my books.

I realise I've had the Woodfords Andy. My mate has a bottle that he normally pours me a drink from when I pop around. Liquid gold. Just realised I haven't seen him for a few weeks too, might pop around Friday after work haha

Sitting at bar at airport

Tue, 2017-02-07 17:41

I don't think you would be able to sit at the bar at the airport for very long, the prices they charge are ridiculous. It's the old captive crowd situation, there is no competition and you are not going to get a drink any where else so you will pay our prices or go thirsty, your choice.

allways remember

Wed, 2017-02-08 00:14

always stuck in my memory is when i got pulled up by customs and they said "this is your 6th trip to thailand in 12 months whats going on where are the drugs " i did my block and told them search me and if they ever got a real job and stayed with the company 30  odd years  (rio tinto) they might have heaps of leave that they might be told to use , as any 1 that has worked for rio knows you get 6 weeks leave a year and long sevice after 5 years  , well you did in my days with them so i had more leave than i new what to do with

"real job" lol makes me laugh

Wed, 2017-02-08 08:46

every job has it's purpose. sometimes I'm sure their job is to try to put ppl in a slightly uncomfortable place to see how they react. no point is taking it personally and doing you block. haha. because that IS his job.... as it is to assess your reaction to what he has said.
.
.
.
and FWIW a pretty important job at that.

As a lot on here (who seem to work away) would know
the easier you make it for them the faster it goes for all.

I pass thru Perth customs at a minium of once a month & as long as ya show respect and not an ass, its rare to have any problems.

I have found that i spend more time waiting to pay for my 2 ltrs of Jacks than i do the rest of the "coming home" process.

 Border force (customs) use

Thu, 2017-03-09 20:00

Border force (customs) use quite a lot of profiling techniques based on age demographic, gender, destination, frequency of travel....

Peter, thank your lucky stars it was only drugs tbey were suspecting you of.

you think border control is tough here? a mate of mine got the full "rubber glove treatment" for giving some lip to the customs guy in Zurich - no stuffing around there! haha, I still find it funny (he doesn't!)

its getting better

Mon, 2017-03-13 03:44

Im a frequent traveler and it has improved over the last couple of years. It used to be an absolute goat roping and I always felt embarresed for Perth when all the bewildered long haul travelers would be lined up for ages with little clue of what was going on or what to expect. Another thing, thank fark for Uber if you cant get a free ride. No more jumping into a taxi with some clueless muppet who stinks like a pigs arse and has no idea where to go..
