Winch!

With big boats I can understand the need for a winch!

On smaller boats, a well balanced trailer with good rollers should make your boat gluide on. I have a Trailmaster/Trailcraft trailer for my 6.5m boat and it winches (manual) on real easy!

As for recomendations, can help fella's as i've never owned one!

Doesn't everyone with big boats just convert to drive on anyway?

drive-on!

I "drive on" but my boat winches on easy also. Many boaties dont drive on, either they're not confident or dont have the trailer setup for it!

so much quicker winching up

so much quicker winching up by hand, most of the electric winches are so slow, can almost cook a roast in the time it takes some to get the boat up, personally make sure your rollers are moving well, and set up and you wont need an electric winch imo

Go manual!

Had an electric winch with my last rig.  Got sick of it and got a 2 speed manual winch = 100 times better.

If you really want electric - The only really good ones that I have seen are home made with a large pully wheel to increase the retrieve rate.

Save ya dollars.

Cheers Pete

TRAILER WINCH

Wed, 2009-06-24 13:56

Dont go electric , takes to long to get the rig up if your in a cross wind or suspect boat ramp and then they break down at the worst time, i threw mine away and bought a three speed winch for a lot less , 1 to 1 rips the boat up for the first half then select 2nd or 3rd speed for the rest and no issues if soem else tows your boat and requires winch power
