Wouldn't advise using the gill grip on one that size, the gill rakers can make a real mess of you fingers, its one of those things that you only do once, any time after that is stupidity.
i find their gills dont do that much? i had a 30kg going nuts while i was hopding both its gills under water. i find kings are the work tohold by the gills, always get cuts and scrapes from them :/

Yep big John, virtually sightcasted 3 legs from from a rock crab to him, plenty of smashed crabs and barnacles brought him in though.
He was a slippery bugger to hold, shoulda went for the old gill grip.
