such a nice boat too, must feel pretty shitty seeing ppl around you taking snaps to take the piss out of you bahahaha. I better sshh before juju gets me:p
did that happen? ive got a saftey chain on mine,i just dont understand how people manage drop there boats on the ramp, and most boats ive been on all have saftey chains fitted
my brother in law was over for a few days during XMAS and we took the boat out for a run. He's got his skippers ticket also, yet at the ramp, he took the safety chain off my boat before I reversed down. Difference is I made him put it back on before I reversed down. Pretty easy to have an accident if you've got a new deckie or it's bigger than they are used to.
The boat he's used to is a small tinnie for river fishing. I'm guessing it's just not as big a issue when it's a two man tinnie but when you get a 7 meter boat...... stuff goes wrong!
I know people like to drive they boats off or push it off as soon as it hits the water.. but your boat is most likely going to fall of if you start reversing and slightly touch the brake, and the rollers make it worse!
also, i heard that rollers arent suited for ali boats???
I get the impression because of the other boat(s) coming in and the way the rods and aerials are up and because it's not early in the day, that it happened after retrieving. To me it looks like he was driving back up the ramp and the winch ratchet gave way or wasnt locked in properly and there wasd no tow safe attached.
that happened to me a year and a half ago,not a nice feeling when every1 looks on at you thinking whatever and its an expensive mistake, hope they have insurance..............
the first thing that happened when i saw this was yell nooooooooooooo, then i could have a laugh. people like this should start off with a smaller boat as the bigger you get the harder everything becomes! does anyone know what the damage was?
suppose we all think these certain people have no idea BUT it can happen to the best of us at some stage. Just takes one small mistake or to forget something once!
I must admit, I pull up the ramp without putting the chain on, just the winch strap. If it snapped I would certainly be right there with that guy, my boat shoots off the trailer. Must change that habit.
Out of interest, how does it get back on? I assume detach the trailer (but tie it to the car with a rated strap) and lift the front high to lower the rear rollers, and then winch while rolling the trailer under it? Does it need a few blokes to lift the bow to get it up? How could an ali hull like that weigh?
It looks very much to me like a Trailcraft Trailblazer (just like mine) and the dry weight of a 5.7m is 670kg. Add approx. 200kg for the outboard plus fuel plus the gear already in the boat and you're gonna need a few strong guys to lift the bow while sliding the trailer underneath it.
I'd be interested to know how they did get it back onto the trailer...wouldn't want to try and drag it back into the water.
If it was a fellow fishwrecked member, would we post the picture here???
a couple of times to do repairs and rebuilds to the boat and the trailer. They go back on fairly easy if you get it right. If it was my boat i would post the pic myself before the rest of them get a chance to bag the crap out of me.I have taken a few precautions to assist in it never happening to me.
I saw this happen to a bloke and his jet ski once, but didn't get anywhere close to the water. Took about 6 blokes to lift and carry it to the water. Left a bit red faced after that me thinks!!!

I was at mindarie having a beer or two yesterday at the Idiana, and mate I can tell you a lot of young and old fools with tubs these days out there.
Rule 1, never take the safety chain off till you in the water,
Rule 2, never pull the trailer out the water with the boat on it till you have the safety chain on too...
Rule 3, check the bungs
Rule 4, check the bungs...
Rule 5, never leave the car in neutral and only the handbrake holding it.... seen a few damp cars too in my day..
oh and always have a safety rope on the front and tied to the trailer, seen a nice Haynes Hunter floating across Hillaries once after the chap took off the safety chain and pushed it out, too only then think about a mooring / lead rope....lol

Some Ally's are fine with rollered trailers
Depends on the hulls and trailer desiagn. My 5.8m plate alli is on a fully rollered trailer. No keel support at all. 24 rollers. Four on six banks.
