just cos you dont fish for barra dosnt mean you dont need a baitcaster. you can use it for breaming, spinning for tailor etc etc etc.

just practice casting with it mate and as Leemo pointed out u can use it for all the above

i think they suit more for conditions more so that particular fish, if you are fishing in a really snaggy place with alot of trees around and so on, they are great because you have alot more control as to where your lure/bait lands, its much harder on a spinner.

they take a bit of practice, expect some messed up line, but once you get the hang of it they're great, just remember to put your thumb down before you hit the water and you should be fine.

...heavy trolling/jigging and ulta-finesse for stuff like black bream (where you can't go past a 1500 size eggbeater and 1kg line!). Other than that, they can be used anywhere. I use mine for salmon from shore and boat, casting softies/hards to skippy/tailor/salmon trout in the estuary, poppers/softies for dolphinfish at the fads...even got a mulloway on one at my local beach while casting metals!

Been having a ball on some just size and under pinkies off some near shore lumps in Jurien using the same sort of gear. This type of reel is also ideal for driftbaiting offshore, when you're using a number 1 to number 5 bean sinker and a whole fish or squid bait. Couple it with a graphite rod and some braided line and you have an extremely versatile outfit that is fun to use once you get on top of the casting.

3-6 kilo is perfect size and woud be suitable for about 90% of what you'd want to go fishing for in our part of the world.

i agree with oz no good for bream lures etc and trolling and the likes.
ok if ya chasing bream with baits though using a ball sinker
