What would you do?

Just want to know what other people would do for the following.
My fibreglass boat has just been delivered back to me from a repair that was carried out. The owner of the business delivered it to my house & i was disgusted at the state of it. It looked like it had been through a war in a flour mill & lost big time. Upon questioning this i was told it had been cleaned!!!! At no stage had it been cleaned. It hadn't seen a drop of water!!
I have spent many hrs cleaning it & filled a half bucket full of fibreglass & dust.
Not only that, the engine cowl has been scratched & the 'T' top now has a small tear in it & the complete lack of care is just unbelievable.
Any thoughts on what you would do in the same situation?

Don't pay the bill
If that's not an option then name and shame comes to mind....

Yeh
Yeh i feel like going & tipping it on & in his car & asking him how clean it looks. Maybe even scratch some paint & rip the upholstery. Obviously he thinks that is acceptable behaviour!!

Yep
Yer mate i feel ya pain, I had the same problem. took my 3 yr old boat in to get a live bait tank installed a few months back and when I pick my boat up and get home and have a look, they had left shit eveywhere. all the wood, metal and drill shavings all through the boat under the floor and everywhere. they had walked all the shavings into the carpet, there was thick grease and dirty finger marks everywhere ( my boat is white) even inside the brand new live bait tank where i'm suppose to keep live baits alive, not covered in thick grease. they hadn't cleaned a thing and to top it off they charged me nearly double what they quoted me.... Wont be going back there again..

Name and shame so someone
Name and shame so someone else doesnt get caught out. We all spend big dollars on boats these days and there is plenty of competition out there. If they are going to do that then we will all know to go elsewhere in the future. Screw em.
Just my thoughts. lol

Pics
Take pics as evidence, complain to them and if you are not satisfied don't pay the bill and take it to court.
Without the pics its only your word against his.
Name and shame after it has been resolved in court. One bad customers complaints outweigh ten good ones if there is enough coverage.

Try Consumer Protection of your options are exhausted
Slam, you can take your complaint to Consumer Protection if you feel you have not got satisfaction, but you would need to have tried to get satisfaction from the business first. That is, you would need to have gone back to the business, showed them your evidence, and given them the chance to make it good (eg fix the damage, refund you, or pay to have it fixed somehwere else). If they tell you to stick it instead, then take your case to Consumer Affairs. Just make sure you have all the evidence (pictures, dates etc). If you haven't taken the boat back to them yet, and they don't want to play ball when you do, make sure to write down the details of the visit when you get home. Write down what you said, and what they said in reply. All this helps Consumer Affairs. If Consumer Affairs feels that the business is in the wrong, they will allocate a case worker to you, and chase the business for you. If you are looking for Consumer Affairs in the phone book, they are part of the Dept of Commerce.

Get back on to them/him as
Get back on to them/him as soon as possible, meet with the owner and tell him you arent happy with the way your boat was handed back and show him the pics.........least they can do is apoligize and repair the damage........
Just as long as the repair job itself is completed to a good standard I dont think name and shame or court action is neccesary for sloppy, careless work.
But dont delay....ring tomorrow......or monday!

Name and shame
I had the same problem with rockingham boats just off dioxin road, they ripped me big time like about $600 too much. When back and he could not care less. So I was happy to name and shame.
Consumer affairs could not help

Thanks Makai
Yeh good advice. I am just a bit dubious of handing my boat back to him as it has taken so long to clean & repair & would rather not let him near it!!
Any thoughts on how to get urethane off the engine cowling? It has gone rock hard.
