What do you do for a living - 2016

I'm sure there was another of these back in 14/15 but can't seem to find it.  Time for an update.  So what do you do for a living in 2016?  Me, I'm holding in there with Health and Safety at the moment and run the Site on the side, always busy and not enough time for fishing lately, but really need to start changing the work life balance again as the scales are getting tipped in the wrong direction lately.

Another offshore lad..

Thu, 2016-03-24 09:39

Based all around the south china sea for the last few years, im back into one of our office's in Singapore doing the elctrical commissioning of a new harsh environment jackup designed for the north sea (that we just copped a 19 month delivery delay on) Hopefully that will see me thru the worst part of this downturn...

If not, might have to build a new boat to spec and run fishing trips outta Gero :)

Mon, 2016-03-28 19:56

Did a delivery of tug to Singas and barge to Batam last year. Many a boat not working.

Have been chatting with mates about some of the other ports like Benoa to heard the amount of cold stacked vessels and drill rigs.

Lots of people stressing but also speculating.

IM a Remotes Auto electrician, basically look after maintenance and repair and install of remote control gear for remote bogging of ore from stopes in underground mines in the pilbara. Currently working an 8 days on 6 days off roster. love the job, get to operate the bogger remotely when testing which is pretty cool and love remote control stuff so its a win win situation.

Hey, theres no bloody driver in the front end loader.

Sat, 2016-03-26 00:10

I think it's nothing short of amazing what can be done remotely now. Some time back when I did a trip to Hedland they had a bloke in a tower controlling reclaimers (I think that is what they are called) which where operating about 1-1 1/2 Ks away.

Me, did my time for the grey funnel line, now retired thank you very much.

Head up the road safety

Mon, 2016-04-04 08:21

Head up the road safety program at a local government focusing issue of speeding but run initiatives, workshops etc around child restraints, motorcycle safety, youth road safety issues, vehicle safety etc. Been there for 8 years now and the job is what I make of it which usually results in me trying to do too much.

Not on the big bucks but have a vehicle provided and access to overtime so still pulling in enough to lead the boating lifestyle and I know I'll have a job as long as I want it.
