What do you do for a living - 2016
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Tue, 2016-03-22 09:13
I'm sure there was another of these back in 14/15 but can't seem to find it. Time for an update. So what do you do for a living in 2016? Me, I'm holding in there with Health and Safety at the moment and run the Site on the side, always busy and not enough time for fishing lately, but really need to start changing the work life balance again as the scales are getting tipped in the wrong direction lately.

Change of lifestyle 12 months ago
Was a FIFO electrical supervisor with australia's largest iron ore producer for a number of years until I was made redundant in March last year. Payout was nice, cleared all debt. Then got called back in by same company to help out. This led to a new career in training and compliance delivery with a large training organisation. I now work around a week a month, either in Perth at HQ or onsite in the Pilbara. Mostly revolving around High Voltage training.

HSE Manager
HSE manager for an American Oil and Gas Exploration company. Spent 12 years on rigs doing 28/28 rotation but have been office based in Perth for the last 4.5 years. Like other comments above, the market is shite at present with mates and peers being laid off left, right and centre. We finish offshore drilling in about a month and then I may get forced to go fishing more often..

Worked as the Football Development Manager in the South West past time for 5 years managing 1600 Auskickers and establishing Footy programmes to develop future Stars of the Great game whilst teaching as well. Met some great people whilst on that pathway. Tommy Kemp for example... classic country bloke. . Funny as all get up and very unassuming. Finished there now back in the classroom full time preparing the future's citizens of this great state. Wonderful job but very busy!
