WhaleShark while squidding

Thought some of you might get pissed off so I thought I better post it. :)

Was out squidding today, Grand Final day with a mate out from the Exmouth Marina. We put the boat in at McLeod Beach, and went out a few hundred metres. After seeing quite a few Humpback Whales, I said to the mate, check that out, it looks like a Manta Ray. So I ran over to where it was and couldnt believe what we saw. It was a WhaleShark of around 6 metres in probably 2 metres of water at the back of the reef. I got to pat the Shark on 2 occasions as it swam up to the back of the boat.

The weather got better and glassed off for the rest of the afternoon......another day in paradise. This was the second time I have come across WhaleSharks while fishing in Exmouth out of my tinnie.

No John I didnt, thought about it though. As it was we spent more time with the Shark cruising up and turning the motor off, then waiting for it to come up to the boat.

The worse part was, after that I couldnt care less if we caught any squid or not. We ended up getting 14 nice buggers though. The conditions today were just sensational, you lot down south would of died after seeing what saw today, the water was so clear and glassy, turtles, humpback whales, bluebone, baitifish everywhere.

I do take it for granted I have to say.

No Alfred no cobia. Yes I do feel like a mongrel, thats why I posted it hehehehe.

It was very awe inspiring,(actually still is) I wanted to follow it all the way out the gulf with the outgoing tide, but decided to go get some squid instead. It would have been one of the top ten days I have had in Exmouth in the 14 years of living here.
