Snelled 2/0 hooks for kg
We got out today in some pretty ordinary conditions (club day), it was pretty rough to start the day off so we decided to fish in close . We managed to get a couple of herring on the way out trailing a couple of lures then off to our whiting spot with no trouble getting a feed , after hunting around a bit more with no luck apart from a couple of decent skippy we headed out to the flat coral to give it a go.
First area we tried not even a nibble so we moved on to another spot about a half mile away, first drift on this spot Sandy had a tangle so doing the right thing i helped get it sorted , in thye process SAndy happened to look over and saw my rod going nuts, quickly grabbing the rod with a decent fish on the other end , it took a fair bit of line to start with but slowly gained some line backand after about 10 minuits i finally saw the culprit, a nice size dhui. what amazed me was i had it on a set of snelled 2/0 hooks on a 20lb leader for kgs one hook was only just in the corner of his mouth with the other hook stuck in a wrasse which had a good set of bite marks in it
I remembered reading an article that Ryan wrote for a mag about kg rigs and by catch , never realy thaught it would work like it did, the dhui was weighed in at 7.5 kg
No more fish were caught by us but there was a couple of nice fish weighed in , Red snapper 3.995kg and a pinky just under the 9kg mark. in the end it realy was a bad day weather wise but a few good fish caught
Hope to get the pic of the dhui up over the next couple of days
