going jiggin on friday - hearing of all teh sharks aroudn thought id go and pickup some gear just in case they are on the bite...
came home with some 9/0 hooks 100lb wire trace some other wire leader(singlestrand chrome nickle) at 105lb some 150lb wind on leaders
im thinking.. mainline (50lb) to wind on, to wire leader to hook?
am i thinking along the right path? can i double uni the wind on to my braid main line?
also, where would i throw a sinker? im not sure about wire leader and sinkers... :L any ideas?
cheers
any one heading to the barges friday?
also, i couldnty find any assist hooks today, would it be okay to use say 150lb leader crimped ? aroudn 6 cm from split to hook?

Answer to your question
Like a firm cheese ..... hehe
It may last a short time but when things get serious forget it. A circle hook will help in keeping any line (mono or steel) away from teeth.

yeh your mainline to the
yeh your mainline to the wind on tie a bimini in mainline and catspaw it on. Then clip on ya wind on to ya wire i guess(crimped loop in wire) ,need few metres of that wire at least then ya crimped on hook. I dont know too much about it (shark fishing) but thats the basic idea. Very thick wire a big hook and big bait i dont think you would need a sinker. could be wrong..

sharks will take anything in
sharks will take anything in the water. as far as the gear goes , if you can tow your car with it it will be strong enough.
. give the stuff you got a go and if its not enough get the heavier stuff next time

Yeh i reckon a bigg bait out
Yeh i reckon a bigg bait out there like a big head as you said. Well scalies landbased work for me but mine are live so i dont know if you should bother with little scalies out there, but still try i guess. Big fat head, biggg hoook and real heavy trace some big mommas down there im sure of it haha :)

ahah,
heres hoping :D
how would i go about attaching a sinker to this rig?
my pan is thus so far
50lb main ---- spider hitch - windon leader (150lb) - crimp- 2m wire 7strand 100lb leader- crimp 9/0 hook
im pretty sure i want a sinker in here somewhere --- maybe a 20lb line from top of wire trace connected to a snapper weight ?

wherever you put the sinker
wherever you put the sinker , you have to plan on the shark will possibly hit the bait on the way down. so you got to make sure the wire leader and bait arent near the wind on or the other line as one bite the whole lot is gone.

if i catch something this is gonna be massive novelty. im predicting nothign or a bust off. if i have 3-4 meters of wire, it wont matter putting a sinker before that hey? i could put a running sinker on my wind on?

well the sinker will sink
well the sinker will sink first and then the wire trace and wind on will meet. so dont do that. Close to or below hook i guess or none at all with a heavy rig/bait depending on the day it should get down alright

300lb piano wire is the way
300lb piano wire is the way to go!
2m of the wire, then 3m of 200~300lb leader, then 80lb mono after that.
hooks, We use carbon steel hooks, long shank.

these rig are great for
these rig are great for smaller sharks upto about 1,5m and under 80kg. Over that you need stronger piano wire and crimped ends.
