You're comparing two

You're comparing two completely different reels because the Saltiga Expedetion is a low speed reel and the Stella SW18000 is a high speed reel. Are you after a jigging reel or a popping reel? Either way get the Stella in either the high speed or low speed version.

Can't see any problems with any of them. I've got both stellas & saltigas - they are simply some of the best fishing equipment on the market. Keep in mind daiwa still haven't engineered a reel to counter the new sw stella.

Go Dogfight

Mon, 2009-11-16 17:28

Hello. A group a friends of mine who converge from Sydney and Germany spent the entire winter season spinning at Quobba this year and they were all using Saltiga Dogfights loaded with 50lb Fins and 80tn/ gt86 combinations. They had no problems at all with these outfits and I have since purchased one myself,so I'd go this combo no hesitation at all. Ray

interesting

cheers boys for your input, at this stage it seems like the stella for me, the dogfight was a close second but upon looking the price seems a little extravagent considering the stella 18000sw is just as good.

now ive heard about the worm drive on the stella being a bit of a problem, with the diawa drives being much tougher, any thoughts?

They are both tough reels

Mon, 2009-11-16 20:31

plenty of anglers have put both through the wringer. At the end of the day it will come down to price, preference, asthetics(?) etc.

For my way of thinking, the SW is a newer version, field tested and proven and the price difference will let you fill the spool with some shit hot varivas line - thats which way I would go personally.

Stella!

Mon, 2009-11-16 20:36

I've use the Shimano Stella family and rate them highly. Dont get me wrong, the Saltiga's are great also but the Stella's are a peg up for sure!

Stella's are stronger & more torque than Daiwa, the ARC casting spool is a bonus for better casting and minimizing braid issues (Daiwa doesnt have). The Stella 20K has more line capacity than Daiwa also!

Daiwa are priced a bit more because there's only a few shops that can sell them where as Stella is widely sold by many shops and the price a bit sharper for that reason!

As for issues, no problems on both behalfs!

yes.....I've now got my SW 20k MAX spool filled with 600m of PE6 (86lb) Varivas Big One line.

Personally I'd go the Stella over the Saltiga as Ive had both as well as the older stella. Straight out of the box....09 Stella hands down. I'll be acquiring another one soon.

Ive lost count of how many times this questions going to be asked just like ford V holden. I personally like the saltiga range but they are probley 2 of the best spinning reels in the world and they both will do pretty much any job you ask of them.

choice!

Mon, 2009-11-16 21:37

A good choice, I spooled up my Stella 20,000SW with 80lb Berkley Whiplash (my fav braid) and it took just over 600m!
