Crabbing North of Woodman Point

Popped into Oceanside Tackle and Marine today and picked up three more crab nets (we only had five nets when we went to Busselton last summer,) We have never been crabbing around Perth and understand that people can crab north of Woodman Point.
Does anyone have any idea what to use as bait here in perth. In Busselton we used spleen. Also any clues on how long to leave the nets before pulling them would be greatfully appreciated.
The kids are keen to give crabbing a go in the tinny.
Should have asked these things at Oceanside Tackle today but I was too busy looking at the DVDs and working out the release weight.

bait
Favorites are fish heads/frames, lamb necks (Check out your iga, they are about 2$ for four and you put the bait holder through the spinal hole and they stay on even with pickers), hearts, spleen, liver and kidneys are all good, but you probably want bait packet thingos to protect it from the pickers. Though I have noticed they can cut down your catch, which is why the lamb necks are good if you are prepared to change em often.
Check your rope length before going, 10mt should be plenty although in the river 20mt + for some spots.
Dunno how far you are planning on going in a tinny. Take ice for your beers and throw some into the crab bucket if you catch some. They go into a stasis and it preserves the meat quality.

We are not going to go out
We are not going to go out too far in the tinny(3.4mtrs) with all four of us, we bought the mesh packets for the baits to attatch to the nets.
We might need to add a little more rope for the floats...depends on how deep we put the nets. Might have to try the lamb necks.
Last summer the crabs wrecked a couple of the bait holders.
Ice is a good idea and we usually have some when we go out

woodmans point
went out to woodmans point yesterday got 19 crabs to take home(threw back the females in berry)and there were alot of big females.you only need to crab about 50metres off the point in about 2to3 metres of water.as for bait i use chicken heads they work well just stick the bait pin through the eyes.

Hubby was keen to know if we could use road kill rabbits as crab bait. We know that there is a rule about using bovine skin etc in cray pots Is there a rule like that for crab nets? Its just that lately there have been quite a few road kill rabbits on the way to the boat ramp.
Southcity.......no kitty as a pet for you then? Cats are about the only animal we don't have as a pet. The kids are keen but I think the dog would have kitty for tea.

Crabing!
Bluebonefamily, Thanks for popping in firstly and hope Honsu helped you out.
As for crab bait, I use spleen & mullet and found that to be the best combination!
Out from Woodmans Point (North), near the Coogee jetty and all around that general area is good for crabbing. The better months still to come also!

Hi Ryan yes honsu was very helpful, we were looking for the DVD clip in Fishing WA about catching King Georges. Thats why I forgot to ask about the best baits to use for the crab nets.
