not fishing but still good news - Luke Adams out of coma

Luke Adams out of coma

  • Luke Adams condition improves
Injured footballer Luke Adams has come out of a coma and been moved out of the intensive care unit at Royal Perth Hospital.

The West Australian understands the 19-year-old Swan Districts ruckman has opened his eyes but it is unclear if he is aware of his surroundings.

It is believed he has not spoken.

He has been moved to a ward and his condition has been updated from critical but stable to stable.

It is unclear if this development indicates an improvement in his overall condition.

The 18-year-old charged with grievous bodily harm over the alleged assault that left Mr Adams fighting for his life was refused bail yesterday in Perth Magistrate’s Court.

Dylan Gerald Wayne Winter, 18, allegedly punched Mr Adams once in the face during an incident in Northbridge on May 1, causing him to fall and hit his head on the road.

Details of the alleged clash were aired for the first time in court yesterday.

Mr Winter’s lawyer Mara Barone told the court the Secret Harbour teenager believed there was going to be a physical fight between his friend and Mr Adams when he allegedly threw the punch.

Mr Winter had been walking with a friend who was arguing with his girlfriend when an altercation erupted between the friend and Mr Adams, who had been on the other side of the road.

The court was told the friend and Mr Adams had been shouting and stepped towards each other but were metres apart when Mr Winter ran over and told the WAFL player to leave his friend alone.

It was alleged the teenager then landed a single punch to Mr Adams’ face. Ms Barone said self-defence could apply to the case.

It is good news

Last I heard he was not doing that well at all and I didn't expect anything positive. My nephew played for East Freo and was a rising star until hit by an oncoming vehicle which left his brain pretty much outside rather than in. He has come through after years of effort by a lot of people and has a great sense of humour albeit a life he/we wouldn't have chosen for him. Good luck Luke and God bless the family. I can only imagine the level of the stress they are under.
