hey guys its about that time to upgrade my gps, and i was thinking of either of these two units to also use as a back up sounder, just curious to how the touch screen goes with water etc on your hands as i know the phone can be a pain in the ass, cheers for your help in advance.

Yeh get a few prints but I can deal with that makes using the unit heaps eiser and entering way points or just naming them when you find them a peace off piss cause u have a key pad rather than having to flick though every letter. 1 prob I have found is my mates get the shits on when I start touching there non touch screen :)

Bloody finger prints...
im running a HDS10 gen 2, and there is always someone that just cant resist touching the screen, i'd hate to think what a touch is like. One upside thou, if you decide to run structure-scan at a later date, the LSS transducer works directly with the touch screens. With my "buttons" one i needed the box to operate structure-scan, another $600 or something around there.
I wonder, if anyone has come out with, and HDS are compatiable with. A small "roughneck proof" keyboard with a NMEA 2000 connection???

I have the HDS 7M touch. Was a bit worried about fingerprints but is no problem at all. Just have to clean it every now and then, but no more often than I clean my sounder screen. Great bit of kit

HDS Touch
We recently put a HDS 12 Touch on the boat. Absolutely love the ease of using it and I don't use touch screens other then my phone, so it is not all that intuitive to me. The screen seems to be relatively unaffected by greasy or wet hands. Just a good clean at the end of the day is all it really takes.

cheers guys i ended up getting the touch screen with structure scan and a airmar transducer, i have started entering some of my gps coords and, like some of yopu have mentioned it is really easy compared to a non touch unit, now just have to wait for a break in this shitty weather so i can get a day out on the water. cheers for your help
