Jurien Bay Seasport Charters 29th November
After a 1:30am wakeup to pick up flangies then up to John's to load up the car and were on the road by 3. The drive up the new road took just over 2 hours so we had time to pick up some brekky from the bakery. On arrival at the boat there were a couple of old boys who were coming with us, and it was decided that it was us 4 on artificials vs. them on bait. After the performance of McArthy's on our last charter we figured we had them covered...
We were heading up to the 60m mark so had plenty of time for a troll on the way out, picked up 4 sbt's on Whitey's heavy gear before John and flangies had a go with their 20lb gear - heaps more fun!
The weather was good, though the current and drift were making it difficult to jig, 2oz jigheads were only just holding the bottom and 130 - 150g jigs were the only jigs that were useable in the conditions. We persevered with the jigs all day, while watching the old boys clean up on bait. I had a huge hit on an evergreen caprice by what felt like a big dhu, the first hit failed to hook up, and subsequent strikes also missed, bugger! In hindsight was probably fishing a bit much drag, I had just tightened it a bit after seeing flangies get busted off by a sambo! Only 1 sambo was boated all day which was suprising, and caught on bait as well.
By about midday the old boys had almost got our boat limit, getting good baldies, pinkies and a queenie that went 69cm. I eventually gave in and made the switch to bait and caught a pb baldie of 53cm and a nice pinkie that went back. I was told that these fish didn't count cause i caught them on bait!
At the end of the day I think between us we only had about 10 hits on jigs all day, John and I got an undersize pinky each and Whitey got a small bonito. The boat limit was reached (mainly thanks to the old boys), with 4 baldies, a bb, a queenie and the rest pinkies. All day we had the feeling that the next spot was going to produce some big dhu's, unfortunately not this time. It was a frustrating day as we could see the big fish on the sounder, just couldn't get them to bite. The pink 10" McArthy's that did so well last time failed to attract any interest, and eventually came up about 4" short after getting mauled by sh!tfish.
Still a great day out on the water, thanks to Whitey and Matt for another great charter!
Tim.

Old boys
Do you have any pics of the old boys so a comparison can be done, though it sounds like everyone had a good trip

Yeah the current was strong,
Yeah the current was strong, and with the wind swinging around a bit it made life hard for Whitey to set up the drifts.

Juriien Bay 29th October
Well, a long day when you get up at 2 am, even longer when you jig and plastic all day for little return!!!!
Still, fun day, a couple of nice little bullet tuna on light gear and really nice to meet and fish with Flangies, and finally got a pinkie on Fankie right at the end of the day to make me feel better....
Probably biggest issue was that the conditions and depth did not suit softies and jigs and we should have dragged bait around, but me and Tim both tried bait for 10 minutes but it really did not feel right once you have been converted to the adrelalin of a jig hit..................Flangies showed the faith all day with little to show except a lost shout lighten to a big smabo on 20lb gear.......
Looking to head out closer to home this Sunday and see if we cant crack a few fish on softies and jigs on the 3 mile.
