No worries
No worries man. The boys are pretty devastated but we can't really blame you for the weather now can we...?
Might be going out next Sunday instead, and hopefully being closer to the "season", the fish will be more likely to be going gangbusters!
We're gunna headout tonight and hunt mully's instead. Put in quite a few hours this year, still waiting for that first run... maybe tonights the night?!

Craigs Great Call
Once Again Craig shows why he is the number one local Charter.
Happy to Cancel because of Winds and the lack of Sambo's around.
This is one Charter Operator who believes "It's Not ALL About the Money"
Pity thou Hekser, I know how much you were looking forward to it.

Its back on !!!
Just spoken to Craig and we are back on.
Just because there's lack of sambos around doesnt mean you give up a nice day out fishing. Who knows, he may have missed a patch out there. We found them last week. There's also skippys and amberjacks as well as tunas.
Im in for tomorrow, I'll be bring all the gear out. Its not just sambos out there.

mills have also cancelled
mills have also cancelled the jigging trip tomorrow and prob rest of next week and try again on weekend on my advice. Spoke to Craig this arvo when he got back in and he confirmed what we knew too, that the sambos are not schooling up yet. There is a severe lack of sambos out there, and a plentitude of sharks. Cant expect punters to pay good money to not pull a fish up all day. there are plenty of SBT's around, we had em schooling up at the patch today, hitting jigs being brought up. Hopefully another week or 2 will see the sambos schooling up.

Will be great to see the big schools
of sambos but i think they will start doing more of their breeding in other areas if the sharks keep them pushed down on the bottom like last year.
So tell me have you got your info from years on the water or hours on the internet?

we were talking to craig
we were talking to craig today, and I dont know what everyone else thinks, but something really needs to be done about these sharks, especially with the fishing pressure from the bans forcing people to chase the sambos. The sharks are not dumb, they just mill around the school waiting for one to be hooked up, then demolish it. This is the thing that is going to destroy the population of them.

i think people need to start throwing
down wire traces and liveys and start catchin the fuckers... id rather catch a shark than a sambo :P

i actually agree with you
i actually agree with you hekser. Something needs to be done, or they need to ban sambo jigging for a couple of years. It is ridiculous the amount that must be lost to sharks over the years. But unfortunately, there are some unstoppable residents that live out on the patch, like the 20ft white, 13ft mako, and a few others that like to wreak havoc.

maybe a ban for a few years
maybe a ban for a few years will encourage the sharks to move out and hunt somewhere else.

yep unfortunately the
yep unfortunately the problem is man made, sharks now know its a good spot for an easy feed.
only way i can see to stop it is to ban sambo jigging for a few years

Is it legal to target Makos, Whites etc
If not, wouldn't mind having a go,
I can see myself saying to Salwater Craig.

not illegal to target makos
It was illegal to catch makos for a couple of months back in January. They became a protected species under international law which meant Australia needed to recognise the law. The Commonwealth was advised that the mako species protected under the law was actually different to the mako species we have here and so it took a couple of months for the exemption to be put though.
That's the short version anyway.
