If sambos, then start out with the SW Labs jigs, Zests and Sea Rocks. Generally 300-500g range for the barges (make sure you're rod handles it though). Some have colour preferences, but doesnt seem to matter much for me. I've tried cheaper lures that just wont catch even when they're fired up, but at least the sea rocks do. There are lots of other great, more expensive lures out there. Locally, available, not a lot unfortunately (except for smith, who do some good jigs)
SW have a few diff jigs, but the slim jig I think it is, is the one I like (and quite a few other people). Kinda faceted on one side but curved on the other (with a bit of lumo). They do some thin knife ones which work as well (but tend to be lighter.

yea depends what your
yea depends what your jigging for but soft plastics make good jigs with a light jig head hook depending on how deep and what fish your after...

no need to spend big money
no need to spend big money on jigs for sambos if they are there and fired up... action + colour are just as important IMO.
If they aren't on fire then jig type has more of an influence.
