3 weeks of bye rounds has knobs on it. I reckon 1 week where everyone has the game off would be fine but that's never gonna happen again coz the broadcasting networks pretty much own the afl now

I still only miss 1 Eagles

Thu, 2016-07-07 19:40

I still only miss 1 Eagles game over the 3 weeks so I don't see how it'd make a difference to me except for having no footy at all to watch one weekend if it were a general bye. How does that benefit the general public?

There's 6 games on each week

Fri, 2016-07-08 08:10

There's 6 games on each week during the byes that can be watched. A general bye means there's no games at all to watch one weekend. I just don't understand the logic above how a general bye is better than 3x 6 game rounds?

They need to piss off the bye, but if they must have it, then everyone have it the same time. I'm not really a fan of this Thursday night crap either.

The bye.

Thu, 2016-07-07 21:01

Piss off the bye, the NAB cup, make each team play every other team twice ( home & away) and if they have to drop the amount of teams then do it.

This bye is crap, and now we have a bye week before the finals start as well.

If a team builds their depth properly, then a long season should not worry them.

Ill add in that no player

Fri, 2016-07-08 05:10

Ill add in that no player can play more than 26 home and away games (the team would play 34 games).  That will force clubs to manage and rest players and therefore play all their kids at some point during the season.

I was about to post a new thread

Fri, 2016-07-08 08:08

because I didn't see this one.
Was going to be "What - No Footy??"
34 week season - Shiite, no team will have anyone left standing fit!!
Just think of all the supporters etc that will go hell for leather should clubs be forced to vaporize!! (But done before!! - called amalgamation.
Managing the Player?? Randall that may well be a great idea. Think the list will have to increase then.
By the way, getting desperate now. Tipping some dark horses, and one down already. I think 2 out of 26 tipped Port, and I was one :-(

 My thought process on

Fri, 2016-07-08 09:42

My thought process on limiting the games of every player is two fold.

One - injury / rest.  Bit much to expect players to play 34 games full on and then possibly two finals at the end.

Two - payment.  Players being asked to play more games are rightfully entitled to ask for more pay.  Which ultimately gets passed onto the consumer (us).

34 games plus finals would

Fri, 2016-07-08 09:55

34 games plus finals would see careers cut short by years. There could almost be an arguement for each team playing each other only once if we were to look at fairness of the draw but I have no problem with the way it is. The Eagles finished second last year and we have had a pretty difficult draw playing most of the best sides away from home but if we can't win those we have no business being in the top 4. Sure some teams get gifted a finals spot with a soft draw but if you aren't top 4 you are just making up the numbers so it doesn't affect the end result.

 Thats my point.  34

Fri, 2016-07-08 11:36

Thats my point.  34  potentially 36 games is too many for a player.  So limit the max number of h&a to 25 or 26 (current season plus nab cup) so during the season clubs would be forced to rest each player at least 8 games.  Players get a regular rest, your team plays every week, more players get a run, comp is more even through the draw, season proper is longer...

Win win i reckon.

 Teams with the best depth

Teams with the best depth are probably favoured by the model.

Play each team once

Mon, 2016-07-11 08:08

then split the comp between the top 8 and bottom 10. The 9-18th team play an easier draw sure, trying to make the finals, but the lower top 8 teams have to play, not tank to keep their spots. Perhaps to counter this the top 8 each get a bonus 4 points.
This will leave a 24 game season. 17 first Rd playing every other team once. & further games to let the top 8 play each other once again. Will certainly "prime" the top teams as they have no "easy" games.
Top 6 play finals. Minor premier plus second straight to Semi. 3 vs 6, 4 v 5. Winner 4v5 play Mpremier,3v6 Play 2.
Then GF.
Would fit "normal" season timeline.

 Freo will struggle to

Sat, 2016-07-09 20:22

Freo will struggle to attract any quality forwards when they see how freo deliver the ball into the forward 50 even compared to a middle of the road team like melbourne who move it so quick.  Long long way to go.

If the Eagles aren't currently throwing the kitchen sink at O'Meara I am going to be disgusted.

No.  Its the only one i have dropped.  And yes, it is a long year.  Cant wait for the end so we can trade some of the dead wood out and draft in some new talent.

How the fuck danyle pearce keeps getting picked is beyond me.  Put stephen hill in the centre and leave him there with complete licence to run.

And although hogan and watts hurt us, i thought that collins did really well considering how fast the ball was coming in.

Freo would have to be a lock

Sun, 2016-07-10 09:48

Freo would have to be a lock for bottom four now , Pearce absolute shocker and just been re – signed for 2 yrs and Mundy getting a haircut didn’t help ..

Freo , Pies and Tigers have all been strong contributors in stuffing my tips up this season .

Is it all over for the weagles if they drop today’s game ? .. a win still gives them a half a chance at top 4

 Our season was defined

Sun, 2016-07-10 12:48

Our season was defined before injuries hit us hard, but i think ross has this belief in having six really good players and builds the team around that.  Up until this year, that six has included sandilands, johnson, mcpharlin, and fyfe.  And i reckon bennell was probably intended to be in that top group.  None are currently playing and it shows.  Take sandi and fyfe out of the midfield and it hurts.  Our lack of ruck depth has been really exposed.  I am really concerned for 2018 if sandi hangs up the boots.  We need a quality ruckman and a quality forward.

Good to beat a top 8 side for a change

Sun, 2016-07-10 19:27

though North Melbourne aren't playing like a top 8 side lately.

Top 4 still in range, so let's see if the Eagles can step up or whether they will just make up the numbers for the finals.
