Fortescue River boat launch

Just chasing a little info or even a picture of the ramp at Fortescue?

Planning another monte's trip in July, possibly taking 2 boats over.

1 will leave from dampier as it definately wont be able to launch from a creek, but the other is a 6.2m razorline.

Probably going to try head over through the night as this time of year the winds are generally down making it a good trip over.

Thanks

Bodie

try 40 mile

Fri, 2010-05-14 12:54

We went to the Monte's 2 weeks ago and launched from 40 mile at high tide no drama at all 4 boats launched from there with the biggest being 8 meter and the smallest 6.5 no drama retrieving them either.

Heaps of campers and caretaker there also to keep an eye on the cars and trailers.

47 mile from memory to the south channel.

Forescue is not an easy

Forescue is not an easy launch, plus you need to cross the river to get to it via the Sino Citic Pacific iron ore project road.

Last yeat when I was up that way on a job, we tried three times to get to the river mouth and had to tunr back all three times, due to the river not being passable! But this year with less rain and cyclones you may be more lucky.
Best bet is to stop first at the Fortescue Road house and chat to the Citic Pacific guys at the camp behind it about access and condtions, or call the road house.

cheers

I think Fortescue is a great

I think Fortescue is a great launch. Might just be used to the NT and its lack of decent ramps though.

I was down there at Easter and Anzac weekends and will be launching there again in a couple of weeks.

Neaps saw the crossing dry through the whole tide. But still plenty of water to get straight in at the ramp. Road in is pretty good. Couple of corrugated spots but nothing bad. The new Sino Iron road looks to be completed so Im guessing the unsealed road in will no longer be maintained.

Biggest boat I have seen was a 7m Glass so and he had no problems. Ramp is quite steep but rock solid bank. Not slippery at all.
