Fishwrecked.com to be represented at East Timor's first International Fishing Competition
Hey Crew,
Just thought I would put up a post about an event coming up that I'm rather excited about. It appears that the Fishwrecked Team have some contacts in some very high places! As a result I have received an invitation from the East Timorese President to cover their Inaugural International Fishing Competition for fishwrecked and the fw-reeltime magazine.
The competition will be held over 3 days at the end of November and apparently there are 100+ Aussies competing along with numerous Malay and Singaporeans and I'm not sure who else. Anyway, I have no real idea of what to expect, not even sure if I'm fishing in the competition or just covering it from a press angle. One thing is for sure that I will be taking a hell of a lot of photos and videos for you guys to check out on fishwrecked and also in the reeltime magazine.
Here's a bit of info on the location below. One way or another it should be excellent. If I do get to fish, I will make sure I do you all proud and try and take out a few of the sections. You never know, we may be able to enter our own team in future years! :)
Cheers,
Adam

From the site
Timor-Leste's water are home to numerous ocean-going pelagics: barracuda, spanish makerel, giant trevally, tuna, dolphin fish, sail fish and marlin.
There will be two catagories of boats: local outriggers (dugout canoes with pontoons) and other types of vessels. Participants can use either handlines or rods - the specifications for these will be futher clarified on an individual basis once participants have registered.
Event coordinators are currently in discussion with sponsors - we are pleased to announce a prize pool of some 14,000 USD - further sponsorship will allow us to increase this prize pool- details TBC. This prize pool will be split into the catagories below:
NB All billfish will be tagged and released
Other Info:
Atauro Island is approximately 104 sq kms in area and 25 kms in length. It is a dry place and the population of 10,000 people is spread in 20 small hamlets over the island. These hamlets are divided into five main sucos (or villages): Makadade, Makili, Bikili, Vila and Beloi. Each suco has its own specific traditions, culture and even dialects, some of which are shared with neighbouring Indonesian islands.Site Admin - Just ask if you need assistance

Ha ha
You were my next call Brad, if Adam couldnt go....I promise
You never know we may well get a team together for next year.
But let's see how this year goes first.
Good luck Adam, onwards and upwards. Just looked at the site stats for FW and over half a million page views a month is pretty big in anyone's language.
Cheers

maybe while your there you can show them the rules we use for the exmouth comp and a brag mat ... you might just be able to shift them towards catch and release for a few other species like G.T's .. dont forget to catch a fish the local way too .. i want to see a pic of you jumping off a dugout with a spear in your hands, knife in your teeth :)

East Timor Comp.
Getting invited is site recognition, well done. Can't wait for the report and the pics. Should be awesome and I already have my hand up for next year. Bet not many of those attending regularly catch and release billies from a 14 ft dinghy. You'll do us proud.

Cheers guys and a big thanks goes out to Andy Mac. Will be interesting to see what they have on offer and what the skippers know about the place for sports fishing. Won't be taking too much heavy gear, just some bits n pieces, sure it will be fun either way. :)
