not a good result when trying to do the honest thing. plenty out there blatently cheat the system and others get busted. im guessing it wasnt a fine that most could afford either

First offence
Dumb mistake. I don’t think it would be a big fine. More than likely small fine slap on wrist

Clearly states nowadays on everything from vehicle, firearms to fisheries etc that the reminder is only a courtesy and its your responsibility to ensure its up to date.

Holy shit...
Surely this isnt the bloke who trolled and berated me for suggesting people could get caught out with expired rego when the gov saved a few cents per person by not providing a reminder for it anymore
I see where your coming from though, you would have received an invoice but must have just ignored it so a sticker wouldnt help either.
I wish I could recall the the description you used for such people...

Sheesh, talk about an all
Sheesh, talk about an all time story beat up. Have a scan through and try find that description, I can't find it.

You're right though, I was caught out by my own laziness back in the days when I had to physically pay my bills at the Post Office.
The new system is brilliant though, definitely no need for a rego sticker and no excuses for missing a payment

I don’t volunteer any
I don’t volunteer any information. Have explained my reasons why when they called me up for a couple of surveys on rock lobster fishing a few weeks ago.
Saying thet the fisheries that I spoke to at the montes a couple of weekends ago were good blokes. Listened to my grievances and were sympathetic.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Look been lots of things ive
Hated fisheries for. In this case be very surprised if it’s not a small fine.1 .didn’t hide anything. 2 honest mistake.3 offered to show licences. Be interesting outcome. Main thing 2 officers got paid . And got top quality feed.should have offered to clean it for them . Extra points. Hope all goes well.i personally stoped saveing frames, handing in tags from crays /pinks ect. Due to my own reasons. Be very interested in this outcome. Good luck .

I really think fisheries
I really think fisheries should offer 5 year licence option. Doesn't need to be at a discount but would save them having to send out a renewal every year and the fisho trying to remember to renew each year.
I would pay the $200 for a 5 year licence in a heart beat.
They do it for driver licence why not for a fishing licence?

Had the same issue as a
Had the same issue as a skipper had a copy of my mates licence on board when we went out fishing. Caught a 20kg dhu and big baldy, then caught a small fox fish almost chucked it back but good eating and demersals don't release well.
Mates licence had expired by 8 days, never received the renewal notice and always has held a rec licence since they first came out. Fisheries can write out a warning, but no he was fined and the fox fish taken off us the fine for the dhu at ten time the value could have been $8000. I was lucky to get away with it as it is also a liability of the skipper to ensure the fisheries on the boat have rec licences.
So do be aware you have current copies of everyone's licence that fishes on your boat.
Cheers

I don’t think it is
I don’t think it is specifically a liability of the skipper, but of the person who has the valid licence ironically.
On here a few years back was just such a case of a guy on holiday in Exmouth who met some blokes who invited him out.
Turned out only he had a valid licence and was charged with 21 fish over.
How can someone who is not in command or the owner of the boat, take control of the vessel during a similar deliberate act to prevent this, hence he has no control over the offence but must be the fall guy.
Which also begs the question if that was on my boat-would they charge my 12 yr old Mac, if his was the only one?
Would certainly be an interesting scenario...

I just read that post....
I just read that post.... That would then be in conflict with how we were dealt as I was the only licenced fisher and 3 fish were on board? So I should have been fined under the same situation.
Previous experience with fisheries in courts is that they don't understand their own legislation very well. I had a commercial matter with them over marine parks and they were proven to not understanding their own legislation.

Losing more public support
If they keep going this way. Got to have a bit of leniency if the licence has only recently expired. Or Give the indivdual a chance to renew on the spot.
Old fishermen never die they just smell that way.

Good outcome
Pitty they had tunnel vision today. Leaving deep water ramp 1000 miles an hour. Looking at someone getting occy on other side of causeway. Otherwise they would have seen someone pulling there crab nets in 100 meters away from them. With a cooker going. Gold
