Not so sure

looks more like a Rosy to me.

The red on the tail and lack of prominent Gold bars on the flanks and head leads me to think it's a Rosy.

ID's certainly are harder in smaller juvenile sizes

Just recived an email from sue at the maritime museum saying...

Hi Cahal,

A great shot! It's a Threadfin Bream (or Monocle bream). It's a bit difficult to identify without examining the specimen, but I'm fairly sure it is a Celebes Threadfin Bream, Nemipterus celebicus. Nemipterus species are generally found in deeper waters of 30-100m depth, but I did collect some in Shark Bay in shallower places. They are often caught in trawls.

We do not have any records of this species as far south as Perth. I've checked our Museum collection records and the Zoological Catalogue, and the furthest south is Shark Bay. So your fish sets a new record! Can I keep a copy of your image on our list of range extensions (your name will be attached to it)?
