Cable Beach shore fishing

I'm heading up to Broome with my young family in August. Staying at Cable Beach. The trip is largely a family holiday, as such I'm going to be limited to the amount of time I can sneak out and do some serious fishing.
I am thinking of taking my flick rod and a few lures to chuck out whilst I walk alog cable beach. Has anyone done this, is it likely to be worth it, any spots I should head to?
Has anone been on a short, half day or less charter that would be worth it?

It was suggested to me that due to the tides, it is way to shallow to even bother. Would love to get some other opinions or confirmation on this?
