generally the braid is doubled using a bimini twist

the leader is then attached using a gt/albright or like

then i use uni to jig

Yes you'll find those knots

Tue, 2010-09-28 18:44

Yes you'll find those knots will not really be the best for braid to mono leaders, they are best sutied for mono to mono.

The above suggestions are good ones. An educated guess would say 99% of people use a bimini twist to double their braid mainline. From there you have a wider range of knots for the leader. I use the Yucatan as it's fast, strong and has a low profile.

Cheers.

any form of blood knot is

Tue, 2010-09-28 20:34

any form of blood knot is not good with braid. Needs stretch in the line to clinch on itself. braid will just slip. Blood knots only work with similar diameter lines as well. therefore to answer your question, double uni will be stronger. But in saying that i wouldnt use either knot. As said. Bimini down to yukatan for jigging, bimini to gt knot for casting.

I use uni knot and double

Tue, 2010-09-28 22:12

I use uni knot and double uni knot for everything, on braid i just do more wraps and lubricate it with spit when tightning. never had a knot problem even when jigging for sambos.

There are better knots for sure but I reckon double uni is simple and effective atleast from my expieriance.

HANDS DOWN, the double

Tue, 2011-06-07 18:47

HANDS DOWN, the double uniknot is a better knot than the blood knot, especially if there is a line
diameter difference between the two lines. The greater the line diameter difference, the more the
blood knot will slip out. Never had that problem with a double uniknot.

If this applies to your situation, if you are attaching a mono leader to a mono main line, a slick, super easy and effective knot is a double surgeons loop.

Dont stuff about. Use a FG

Tue, 2011-06-07 19:13

Dont stuff about. Use a FG knot for braid to leader (the best hands down, except for less than PE2 where a GT or albright is more practical)and a uni from the mono to terminal.

Have tried just about everything else, this combo is the best in my opnion.

You dont need that fandangled

You dont need that fandangled contraption to tie a FG knot either, they are a piece of piss by hand.

Quick knot the double uni is good but heavy duty the FG knot by far, as mentioned.

FG knot

Wed, 2011-06-08 10:35

This is similar to how we do the FG knot but we finish it off a bit more than what he does (Pop in if you want a demo).

Good knot for heavy jigging & GT casting and no tool required for that knot which is good.

PR knot

Wed, 2011-06-08 23:56

I just aquired a PR bobbin and have been using it to tie all my braid to leader knots and they have all been given a good test and the result for me is that is all I will use now- super slim and super strong they are great.. bit of a pain to tie but ok after 2 or 3 times...

Yep, I got a bobbin and started using the PR for all the heavy jigging and popping. Then I learned the FG (thanks Sam) and have not used the PR since, as the FG is slimmer, goes through the guides easier and is quicker to tie. I have not had an FG break yet which suggests it's pretty strong.
