Blank Recommendation
Submitted by Tim on Tue, 2007-08-14 20:50
Can anyone recommend a good blank to build up for a 30lb jig rod.
Through an unfortunate incident I broke 6 inches off my 15-24kg Rapala Braid Concept jig rod. The plan now is to strip the guides off and use them on another blank but I dont know which one. I have previously looked at the Seeds but at $400 they are more than I want to spend.
Will be mainly used for bottom bashing up to 50m and drift baiting. Will be matched to a Penn 975.

30lb
No hurry Mav. Yeah only going to run 30lb. Had a back fusion a few years ago so I just cant put the pressure on with the heavier line classes.
Trying to stick with lightweight blanks too if possible.

Samurai makes some nice
Samurai makes some nice blanks in the NV series.......quite firm blanks, even the 10kg can easily run 15kg. NV9 I think...amd relatively cheap as well. Then there's the Calstar 600L and 600XL, Sabre graphite composite GF670. Pacific Composites do some nice blanks as well, in composites or high modulus graphite. I'll find out for ya soon.

Disagree
Hey Salmo - I take it you disagree with Shizz's recommendation. Was it a Hastings you broke a few weeks back

hastings
Nah.....Hastings (Twin Helix) are good.....Im just clumsy.
The rod a blew up was single helix (cheaper) and probably too fast (=brittle) for the job
But I would maybe look at a Calstar Garfighter 60XL or 60L.....very tough....nice action (composite)
cost @$160.....
can trim the butt a bit if you want it shorter but I find the length fine.
There is also a new blank range out by Hastings (GUSA).....just released.....dont know much about them but Morgan has a 2 rod recipes using them in the latest Modern Fishing (Got mine in the mail last night so might not be in the shops yet)
