VS reels
G'day Staal Lover,
I've looked at these reels, and possibly might have bought one, but was a bit put off by the lack of a bail arm.
What are they like to use, and particularly, when casting, does the line pickup collect the line well just by turning the handle?
The ones I've looked at have had no line on them, so it's impossible to try the mechanism.

I have put my 250L on a beach rod with it loaded with 80LB line and got as much distance as anyone there !!! Had the same thought about it catching on a cast but haven't had it happen once (touch wood !! and 80lb would rip your arms off if it caught) !!
The lack of bail arm took a little getting used to especially when a freight train picks your bait up. But you just give yourself a little line and Bob's your uncle TURN UP THE PREASURE !!!!

Casting
Thanks for that info, what about this scenario, when I fish for tailor on the offshore reefs, I usually stop a cast with the handle/bail arm before it hits the water, as often a fish will take a bait the instant it hits the water. How do you reckon they would go with that? Will the pickup catch line still whirring off the spool?

I would say it was as ugly as sin and never buy one. Then again STALL I have seen yours (fuggin reel that is) and it makes sense. Mind you.. I would need to be pissed to buy one
