Take a walk downstream and anywhere you find 'rapids' or faster flowing water going over rocks have a cast into them and around the eddies behind. Celta spinners are my favourite lure. Have picked up a few undersized rainbows and seen bigger ones before. I have also seen goldfish and small carp swimming around the main pool straight down.
A fairway downstream along the bank i have also seen undersized black bream before gobbling up my marron pellets when in season.
With the dinghy you will really only be able to head upstream. You can go down stream but be prepared to do alot of dragging over shallow stuff, logs and rocks. Again this all depends on water levels. If its up then you should be fine heading down stream. But if it is up the fishing is basically bust.
Point to note: this area is classed as freshwater so you will need a freshwater angling licence to fish there, even if it is only for the carp.

Thanks Buz, much appreciated info. I am being guided by another fella and I think he might be a bit off the mark with the fishing.

Maybe he got mistaken with Warner Glen Bridge or Alexander Bridge. Plenty of good boating and bream fishing to be had near those bridges, and you dont need a freshwater licence as they are still tidal.

Cheers Buz, plan changed a bit now. We'll be camping at Warner Glen and launching at Alexandra. I think we'll have a much better chance of catching something.

Hows it going mate,
I will be moving down that way in the next week, to start work and that, so i am keen to hear back a report of how you get on.
Unfortunately I do not have a boat, but i would be still love to hear how things are on the river in general.
Best of luck with the trip, enjoy it,
