bad day at the barges
well....
hon-su, crushed(karl), troy(my son) and myself headed out from woodys to the barges, was a late start due to the winds but turned out to be a nice day in the end..
thats the good news...
hit the south barge first with the sounder lighting up, we all thought...yer here we go....that was the end of that.
nothing, not a touch and that was how it ened up all day.
we checked every wreck and seen a few members out there as well, john f, hoookt, luke, but it all seemed quiet with not much happening for us, even with the pro onboard.
on the way in hon-su jigged up the small pinky and that is all we got all day.
thanks again to hon-su for putting up with us for the day and sorry for not getting onto some fish, but you seen what we did, so who knows.
anyway still better than sitting at home pulling you know what.

Jeeze Ron....tough luck
Jeeze Ron....tough luck mate.
We had a slow day as well, but at least got a few fish hooked. I left all my expensive jigs at home, as I thought sharks would be a drama, and so they were. Made do with searocks and williamsons most of the day....was hankering for a Smith but knew what the outcome would be....
I got hit second drop, so we thought it was going to be a good day.....medium size amberjack that got MUCH bigger about half way up...felt like a 4 ft shark got hold of it andf after a few minutes it let go and I winched in the amber before the shark could finish the job. Got the fish to the boat whole but a few sizable chomp marks....certainly would hae been a catchable shark. Amber in the icebox, and was absolutely deliceous for dinner on the BBQ.
Left that barge due to the shark and got hit pretty quick on the outer barge on a shout width (snuck one good lure in....thanks Chrisp!) and felt like another amber until a bigger shark took the lot. Moved on straight away.
Tried the Eucla and south barge but not a touch despite some small shows.
Then back to the north with Hoookt, and we found a couple of great schools, but very hard to interest them. I hooked onto a very strong sambo, but locked down on it to stop it getting to the sharks and broke the braid after a sizling run.
Meanwhile schecky and simon were having no joy, with only schecky getting a few touches.
Then the Schlecter hooked up twice in a few minutes, on PE2.....did not end well......sharked, so we headed off after watching Hoookt bring in 2 nice sambos. I think he did best out everyone out there.
On the way in, had a nice swim but could not replicate the squid at Rotto (nada) so we headed home and got 2 squid out the front of Hillarys. Daz got 2 as well with his missus.
Nice day, but hard work and a lot of jigging for little return and sharks when we did hook up.....

boys... tried jigging, got nowhere. But then we put on the live squid that we smashed up in the morning and if you could count to 20, you were on a run! Got hammered, and hammered and hammered! Only got two 25-30 pound sambos into the boat but had a wild time trying to control what was down there. Not a heap on the sounder, but squid and back of rotto = winner today! We were only there for maybe an hour or so also.... sorry to hear you had a bad run but we went off!!!

yeah - love it even more every time I go out... got a good feed of squid on the way home for ourselves too. As far as the sambos go, I'm happy for them to go hard on squid. So much cheaper than jigs!

Beautiful rig
Hey Oracle,
I saw you at the ramp Sunday morning and then again when you arrived at the barges. I was on Ron's boat, it really is a very nice boat.
Awesome choice of colour, very brave to. Hot and hard to keep clean.
Was looking very closely at the Stabi's before I bought my BarCrusher.
I could not find one to test out at the time, which was probably just as well as I probably would have blown the budget even worse.

We were only chasing KG's which didnt really find any t talk about, did manage a ncie flattie, some skippy, and some fat sandies.
Now i can put a face to a boat (Fisho-ron) :) I was the the one with the Fury at the ramp.
Must be unusal for Honsu to strike out on the jigging!

Yeah I was out there with a couple of mates yesterday.
Hooked one monster that busted the braid after a few big runs (had the Stella just about locked up and the 80lb busted so wonder whether it had a a nick in it).
My mate got another small sambo which was released well.
Nothing else for the day. There were 2 charter boats out there when we got to the barges around 10am, but they both left within 10 mins of us showing up so not sure that they were having much luck either.
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Hey guys
headed out with Craig on Saltwater Charters yesterday and had the same troubles.
We had a troll for SBT's early and scored 4 or 5 then headed out for a jig. We tried 6 or 7 different barges/wrecks except Hillaries and apart from 2 dropped somethings (reasonable sambo's) only jigged up 4 or 5 small sambo's. Was still a fun day and Craig did everything he could to put us onto fish but it just wasn't a good day by the sounds.
