Submitted by jeremy-j on Wed, 2011-03-02 19:48
Hi Guys,
Im heading down to Augusta this weekend for a wedding and as it seems il be able to wet a line saturday. I know the water temp is still to high for migrating salmon however does anyone know of any reports or places to fish in the area. Even if i can snare an unlucky resident salmon.
I will be landbased, have a 4X4 and not afraid to put it to work. Any info will be great
Cheers

Boranup
Try the northern end of Hamelin bay near Boranup , there should be some big herring with the chance of good tailor and skippy with the chance of a shark or two. Best to get in there mid afternoon and look for good gutters before itgets too dark.

Ah good old Augusta
Love it. You have so many options to fish, from simply sitting on the shore near the Cafe trying for some whiting to many beaches and rocky areas around as mentioned by carnarvonite.
I personally love the stretch from town to the lighthouse and have had some fun times there over the yrs.
You can even go up river and this time of the yr you could get into some bream and soapies in the Blackwood.
Cosy corner south off Hamelin is also one of my fav spot, either from the rocks with thumping skippy/herring, or more safe the beach for herring, flatties, tarwhine, tailor (sometimes) and salmon if they cruise by.
Living up here in Kcity surely miss some of the simple beach fishing options, but then we have others to compensate.
