hav searched previous threads both on here and on thehulltruth
can only find one thread on both forums discussing this
i can figure that you use nmea 0183 but by all accounts its not possible to link the two because the 585 doesnt have TLL??
however when i was on the phone with chivers marine today, he said that you could link the two and he would send me the email with the info..
however i have found the unit at a better price elsewhere(hence he wont send me the email if i dont buy from him) and am wondering if i can find the info about how to connect the two to make them link up.
thanks

Basically, the gps can send
Basically, the gps can send Lat:long to the 585 via 183, and you can save the gps location in the 585 by dropping a waypoint on the 585 screen, it has memory for 20. BUT you can't send the gps points back to the gps as they don't have TLL. Only ones that do are sOme furuno gps, but they are generally crap.
I have seen one post where the guy setup an electronic translator to change the TLL to another language, but pretty complicated.
I am doing the same thing in the next few weeks.

I have pm'ed the guy who designed the electronic translator, he wrote some custom code, but have not heard back from him yet.
I am going 587 and garmin 740 (garmin is already On the boat, not a bad GPS apparently).
Will let ya know how I go.

Same
Hi John,
I'm considering the same setup and also have the Garmin GPS (750) already on the boat. I understood the 585/587 were 0183 and the Garmin 2000 so you need a translator box. Apparently All Boats have such if you're NOR.
interested to know how you go.
