40hp four stroke yammie id

gday everyone!first time here,who knows may even contribute something worthwhile....
can anyone id the year of this 40hp? or direct me to a website that can? yes i have googled every combination possible of 'yamaha 40hp four stroke photos/pics/images /identification etc etc'.thinking (hoping) its 2006

On the transom plate or under
On the transom plate or under the cover should be a builders plate with all that info .. plus a serial number .. if no year of manufacture is there you should be able to Google the serial number for some info or ask yamaha

Yamaha don't make it easy
to find year release...a pain in the arse especially when buying 2nd hand etc...mine has a letter at base of tag which in turn you match to a chart for the year,,,others I've seen don't and you would have to ring a dealer...why don't they just stamp the year on the tag ...I love yammies but thats just stupid

the seller has got f40bl off
the seller has got f40bl off the outside of the motor but a couple of characters are missing. f40bl doesnt match anything on google.aaaarrrrggggghhhhhhh!!!!!!

i rekon go on google images and search something like ' 2000 model 40hp yamaha 4 stroke' it should come up with some images and then you can compare it. Not gonna be perfect but atleast you can get some rough idea.

pre purchase inspection
pre purchase inspection states f40beto however it has electric trim and tilt. no mention of shaft length and o doesnt correspond with year of manufacture. $700 on repairs to hull plus a service at 440 ex parts should put me in goid standing to knock a thou off the asking price.
