Swan river giant herring

Swan river giant herring

Went to one of my go to swan river spots where i have landed bullsharks but never the mulloway that ive been chasing. After spending most of the night sitting in the freezing cold chasing that illusive mulloway i was begining to give in. Around 2:30am I threw my flicky with 9lb braid and a small strip bait of tailor on a red longshank out in the hope of catching some more live bait to reset my two mulloway rods. I felt the line tighten and bang! i was on to what i thought was decent mulloway! The line screamed out and the head shakes were insane! I seen a huge flash of silver as the fish leaped out of the water and i seen that it was definalty not a mulloway. After a few more nervous leaping runs i landed it to see it was a huge giant herring. Measuring 85cm

Back in march they were schooling in the shallows near melville beach. Must have been over 100 along that stretch all around the 50-60cm mark. Wouldn't take any bait or lure! I think they were spawning. Id say that would be good place to target them!
