South West Artifical Reef
Hi all,
It’s been a couple of years since I have visited this forum ....looks like the usual suspects are still here having fun.
Just wanted to point people to the South West Artificial Reefs Facebook page www.facebook.com/SouthWestArtificialReefs
Please like the page and feel free to let us know what you are catching if you are travelling out to the reefs for a fish.
These reefs were deployed to help provide better fishing opportunities for people fishing the Geographe Bay area in small boats.
In the coming weeks we will be calling for fishers to become research volunteers to help us monitor the success of WA's first trial Habitat Enhancement Precinct. This might involve stuff like dropping a camera (we will provide) down where you are fishing or providing info like how many boats are out there. So if you are a local boatie or keen to get involved send us a message.
The reef at Bunbury and Dunsborough are already being visited by Dhufish, snapper, Samson fish and Skippy. In fact to date we have counted over 30 different species out there. Even Baldchin grouper and Boarfish!!
There is also going to be another reef installed off Mandurah late 2015 or early 2016 which was partially paid for with your fishing license money so stay turned.
Have a great weekend
