I was using 100-150g jigs. They seemed to work well. Smaller ones are too hard to use with the big tides up here. Haven't tried anything bigger yet.
Surprisingly, for his size he put up a really good fight on the 50lb gear I was using. Almost had me guessing him as something like a trout or chinaman as he dogged straight down to the reef... then he skyrocketed to the surface and did the usual acrobatics queenies do.
