Old fishing rod unknown guide piece

I'm wondering what this is for and what i need to replace it.. its where the first guide would usually be. rod is about 13ft with fuji guides and is for an Alvey reel.

Fold down guide
Some older rods had a folding guide closest to the reel. It was for storage etc. ( i think )

I wonder if you can buy them anywhere or what would be a good size to replace it with using a normal guide. The next guide above that one measured 17.8mm on the inside diameter.

Fuji used to make them as a plain wire ring, not sure if they still do but the model was something like BPWFL. Could ask a tackle shop and see if they can get them.

With rods made for the alvey( older rods ) the first guide is usualy vary large to handle the big loops that come of the reel while casting. Thats why some would fold down for storage or transporting .
I know of a guy in Westminster ( Jim ) who would have the parts and is a great rod builder and repairer. I dont have his number on hand but could PM it to you tomorow, or another member might have the number.

Awsomes guys thanks for the info I think I might replace it with a large normal type guide.
Will give Jim a call either way to see what he reckons as its not too far from my place.
