The IMA and the Caprice are particularly effective on Dhufish. Brody, did you know that they all have slightly different retrieve rhythms?

The shape and weighting will

The shape and weighting will determine the action and retrieve.

For example, the hooker is a high speed darter - meant to be worked long stroke and fast, 2 winds a lift. Best for fast or highly aggressive fish.

The ima's are slow flutterers and suit a slow, 1 small quick lift, 1 wind retrieve.

The caprice is a darter that flutters alot on the pause as you wind. It has a similar retrieve to the ima, but faster, interspersed with a pause every 3 or 5 lifts - that is how the designer jigs them anyway. Actually there are quite a number of ways to jig this, but that's been the real producer for me in Perth, especially on the pause.

The retrieves for those 3 were picked up from watching videos of their designers, my own perceptions, and from people who used them very often.

The shabajig and the apia I have never used before - but go out there and definately try them out.

When you say pause Kasey, do you mean, you do the lift, then pause the rod, or pause so the jig is stationary in the water? I had the second happen once or twice at the abrolhos, just holding it still, felt some taps, did a few short jigs and the fish then hit it. Usually I do the first method (long stroke, wind in slack only)

By pause I mean wind and lift, slowly drop rod tip about a foot, then continue to wind and lift again.

By doing this you let it dart-dart-dart then flutter and stay/drop, and this can sometimes really attract the hit.
