Nic first Adam, that looks about 40kg's by the size of the lure in the pic, the lures an Oscar junior black/purple colour....my favourite too BTW

I think I might have to tag along on the next trip to exmouth. Well done on your first marlin Adam. Quick question cheif,Is It the black marlin that grows the biggest out of all marlin.

I think for Australia it's Black, internationally Blue!

Cheers guys, was certainly a catch that I won't be forgetting anytime soon. Yep we thought it was between 40-45kg and caught out of Tantabiddi on a Richter Oscar Junior 502/506. There was some footage of it Jay but it didn't turn out very well.

I think the Oceanic Blue Marlin is the biggest that you get, but the blacks get pretty bloody big and aren't too far behind. But I'm not 100% on that.

C'mon mate surely you've been out and about lately? Have you been getting a few?

Havent been gettin out a whole lot lately mate. doin a bit of land based stuff in the river for bream etc to pass the time, got a cupla trout down in pemberton a few weeks back with my lady. went for a jig and got into some skippy recently, followed by a pinky off a drift near rotto on the way in, My days off have been crappy weather for a while now, which makes it hard.Just countin down the days till the billy bonanza this time in 2 weeks i'll be switchin up sails in the gulf.
Just dont spend a whole lota time on the computer, thats why i dont post much. But i am still here. : )

Do you think you have a case of 'Marlin Fever'?

Marlin: A large fish with a bill at the front, used to club food into submission. It is a predator at the top of the food chain. This fish goes where it wants, when it wants. It eats anything that will fit in its mouth. They come in a range of colours including Blue, Black,Striped and White.

Fever: The affliction I am suffering. Probably brought about by contact with the species; they are the only known carrier. It’s so contagious that it can be contracted through sight only. Simply looking is enough to give it a hold in your system. This has been proven through observation of individuals in an advanced state, just watching videos of the species.

The symptoms are much too terrible to be described in a forum such as this, but treatments for relief of the symptoms have been explored......see above pic.
And now an understanding of Marlin fishing dawns…

Despite all of the odds stacked against you, you not only found a Marlin, but convinced it to eat something with a hook in it. You are now connected, good luck, you will need it. You won’t win all the battles, but all we ask for is a chance.

Win or lose the Fever just gets stronger.

Here is a bit of Marlin trivia.......The maximum size of blue (and black) marlin is often debated in both sportfishing and scientific circles. The largest sportfishing capture on record is a 1,805 lb fish caught by a party of anglers in Oahu, Hawaii aboard the charter boat Coreene C skippered by Capt. Cornelius Choy (this fish is often referred to as "Choy's Monster"). One notable feature of this catch was that a whole yellowfin tuna in the 100 to 150 lb class was found in its stomach,(oh my god). In the Atlantic the largest sportfishing capture on record appears to be the 1,402 lb fish caught by Paolo Amorim in 1992 at Vitoria, Brazil. This fish holds the International Game Fish Association all-tackle and 130 lb class record for Atlantic blue marlin. Commercial fishermen have boated far larger specimens: the largest blue marlin brought into Tsukiji market in Tokyo supposedly weighed a massive 1106 kg(2433lb). Imagine that thing coming up on your lure spread with serious intention!
