Mixed Bag at the S-Bend

Mixed Bag at the S-Bend

After 3 hard days of perseverance (at at times pain) things improved and some of the result is shown in the image below. The Tailor came in at 51 and 54 cms. The Mulloway 68 cms. The Flathead is a GEM and caught on a small surf popper that I always attach when fishing in surf. The session included 1 more Mulloway about the same size released and two other lost due to poor hook sets. I also bought home a number Bull Herring and some nice sized Dart for the smoker.

It goes to show patience pays off. The previous mornings and evening sessions seemed perfect but that's not what the fish thought........

Conditions up there are tricky at the moment with most popular holes weeded out. Beach gutters are the go at the moment however the beaches are pretty cut up and vehicles require good clearance. Needless to say though this is still one of my favourite locations and now I have won over the locals (after much effort) I really enjoy my few days of solitude when I get the chance.

Nice work. Goes to show that when you put the time in you often get rewarded. Nice flattie, a couple of top-shelf fillets off that ole girl.

Glad to see the fish came out to play in the end.
The landbased fishing has been very frustrating of late with all of these easterlies, and you need a lot of patience - which you obviously showed.
Will join you next time you head up there mate - just give us a bit more notice Lol.

That's a thumping flattie.

Good mixed bag for sure.

Did you give Flat Rocks a go as well while you were down there? Chance at a Dhuie from shore off that spot.

Flat Rocks

Mon, 2010-08-02 14:35

Thanks Andy. The Flathead is a thumper and I was so stoked to catch it the way I did.

The conditions there are not that conducive to fishing the holes at the moment with a deal of weed around and moderate seas. There was a 12 kilo Sambo landed from just north of Flatrocks last week. I may have another run late September. Conditions should be more favourable then. The spring tides tend to make things interesting up there from all reports.
