Finally
A dozen trips to rotto trolling last year and more on the 3 mile for no mackies. Second attempt at mackies this year and finally nail my metro mack!
Lots of baitfish on the southside of rotto, but none were touching lures. Trolled for 3 or 4 hours for not even a sniff with a full spread of lures. Anchored up and started burleying, hoping for some sambos/kings/pinkies if the mackies werent around at least. Only took about 10min once the burley started going and my reel screamed off. Nice light spinning rod meant for a long fight. After taking me around the boat a few times, just as it was starting to come up, the hooks slipped and I got my whole rig back. Ah well, just a a sambo I thought (I only had mono on) and rebaited and chucked it out.
About 3 min later, zzzzzzzzzz, rod took off again. Nice fight again, lots of curry, took me around the boat, rubbed against the anchor line, and finally got it in view to realise it was a spaniard! You beauty! Not as big as the one that got away but good to start somewhere. Only mono, so luckily one of the hooks got caught in the gill plate and stayed there for the whole fight!
A few minutes later, Graeme (uncle on here) got a nice screaming run, but just as he started to turn it, the line got snipped. Wound in, rerigged, only to have the anchor line snap (wore away on the reef) so no more anchoring for us. Dragged some lures around through the area after but no takers.

Way to go, Matt!
Obviously a few around, interesting that they didn't want the lures...did you get it on live or dead bait?

Didnt have time to catch a livie! Was rerigging up with smaller hooks on a second rod to catch something small and alive but two drops of being picked and the main line went screaming off.

If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

Nice one Matt
I'm still trying for one but don't spend much time trolling. A couple of 15KG ones were caught up off Lancelin a few weeks ago near biscayne.
