On second thought, maybe we could have shortened the pod a bit, but the last two reasons are good enough to make it the way it is.

Changing the tack somewhat, one of the first trips we intend to do in the beast is the Abrohols Islands. Can anyone give us an idea or ideas of the logistics of such a trip. Thanks.

The tank we are putting in approximately holds 200litres. You can see the size of the boat and motor and fuel economy of both is an unknown quantity as yet. Do you know?

Hi
Is the 150 johnno a 4 stroke or 2 stroke. If it is 2 stroke is it DFI, EFI or carby.
An equivalent 150 optimax on a Seafarer Victory used to get me around 1 nautical mile per litre at cruise speed. This would drop to around 0.7 in rougher conditions. I would guess that 200 litres would give you around about 140 nautical miles of cruising for either 4 stroke or DFI.
If it is carby, I would guess you would work on around 100 nautical miles.

I believe it is around 70km one way. The Johnson is a 1993 Silver Star 2 stroke VRO. All carbies. Six of them to be exact!!

Well 70km is approximately 40 nautical miles. So 80 NM just to get there and back. By my very rough estimates that will not leave you with alot to play with.
As Jamies has said, I would make sure you do your own testing of fuel consumption before you make a big trip and then allow for plenty of reserve in case the sea turns angry and you have to plod back at 12knots...chewing the juice.

Abrolhos would not be my
Abrolhos would not be my first choice of shake down runs. Long way offshore if something goes wrong and notorious for windy conditions making it hard to plan a trip well in advance.
I would suggest a few closer weekend runs to iron the bugs out and get really familiar with your rig.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Oh yes, we intend to do that. Quite a few trips off Ocean Reef, round trips to Rottnest and runs up and down the Swan. The Abrolhos trip wont be happening until next year probably January or February.
